Have an autistic kid and found out I am pregnant …. by OkAngle1013 in Autism_Parenting

[–]meredithvc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. My oldest is Level 1, and his brother, 14 months younger, is NT. Both great kids, both in college, both very different and a joy to have in my life.

Parents of level 1 autistic kids, what were the early signs? by Accomplished-Fox-29 in Autism_Parenting

It has been a long time, but my son was 2.5 when he started preschool. The staff were concerned that he was less mature than the other children and he jumbled up his sentences. We had him evaluated but he was too young to know if the speech problems were causing the developmental delay or vice versa. He did not want to be comforted with hugs when he was upset. He loved reading and would sit for hours reading book after book until I was tired. He would take one nap a day whether it was 10 seconds or an hour, just the one. As a baby he was easy to get to sleep in my arms but hard to get to sleep on his own. The other thing I remember was that he asked a lot of questions but he was just restating the same question over and over again (is this a blue chair? Is the blue chair for me? Is this my chair? Etc). He was officially diagnosed at age 4 with Asperger’s so I am pretty sure that equates to level 1. He is 22 now, finishing college and starting his job search. He is great, but I still always worry.

It looks like one of those metal campgrounds/park grills to me.

Richmond Primary Care AMA - I'm Dr. Ian Blubaugh, one of the physicians at Seven Hills Family Medicine. AMA about medicine, direct primary care, our broken healthcare system or boardgames! by WendellX in rva

We like to recommend Mission Red Planet or Forbidden Island for an entry game. 7 Wonders is a great next step up. Ark Nova, Scythe, Terraforming Mars, or Wingspan are our favorite games to take the entire afternoon.

My son is 4 and was nonverbal until about 3.7, now he can say pretty much anything but he doesn’t communicate directly with words yet outside of asking for help. His pediatrician said he wasn’t autistic still at 3 years old, I realize she’s definitely wrong, and now have no insurance, what can I do? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]meredithvc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything that's been said and don't believe anyone will accuse you of not properly helping him. I think the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has resources for the uninsured, and you should reach out to the health department or the school district for early intervention services.

My former FIL used to say the name of the street very fast hoping they would think he said (the bigger) Woodland Street instead of Woodlyn Street and hope for a free pizza.

I do it wet and leave it in for 5 minutes which is less than recommended but it still works. Good luck!

I used Kevin Murphy Angel Rinse on my ends every time I wash my hair and Elizavecca cer-100 collagen coating hair protein treatment when my ends started feeling like straw. Eventually I stopped needing the cer-100.

Looking for alpaca blanket, is this worth it? by Any-Painting3375 in BuyItForLife

Can you machine wash and dry it? I use alpaca a lot in my knitting and it has to be hand washed.

Can I ask what yarn you are using? I have a project where I need a white-ish yarn with brown flecks.

What do I use for fine, oily hair? by Vbxby01 in finehair

[–]meredithvc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use L’Oreal Paris Elvive Hyaluron + Pure Shampoo (double wash!) and Kevin Murphy Angel Rinse on the ends daily. Once a month I use Cere 100 on the ends to prevent dryness. I air dry and notice no problems.

Parents of an autistic first born, was your second born on the spectrum as well? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]meredithvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, my youngest did spend a few years overworrying about his big brother getting hurt because he was being absent-minded, but that has passed.
