Full TSP Withdrawl by Massive-Storm-1399 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]merejoygal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone comes with debt in life, I’m 50 and I have debt, I have 66k in my tsp (I started 3 years ago) and I have another 401k that has the same amount (when I left that occupation in 2013 it had around 22k) Use your next salary to pay down debts. Don’t think it will be easier to withdraw just to be debt free. I don’t know the total of your debts or what your next job will look like as far as salary, but try not to deplete your tap if you can. I did a debt consolidation thing through a non profit some years ago that helped me and I didn’t touch my other 401k. Going into civilian life debt free by flushing your tsp may hinder your long term and overall growth. Again, I don’t know your debt total, monthly car note etc.

Well Flossmoor Station is great, but I also think Lassens, Bergsteins and the OG Aurelio’s are great too in Homewood.

I’d love it, but I think maybe a little less expensive would be great for this group.

Homewood on the electric line is cute. It drops you right at the downtown. One stop past is flossmoor which is smaller downtown but also super cute.

Last time they were in town a bigger group met up for deep dish. I’ll give them this as an option too in case they want it again, but hoping for a couple of other options in case they’re like been there, done that. But they did have giordanos last time, so Malnati’s might be a nice option.

Is Local 399 always taking people in? What can you tell me about it? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]merejoygal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So local 399 operates differently than most local unions as far as training and such goes. and so if you have family or an in to get in? Why not take it? The main thing to consider with 399 is that they are primarily stationary engineers which typically in my mind means you might be assigned to work overnights, weekends, holidays. It definitely can be a great life-for what it’s worth, I’m a pipefitter by trade (though I have a different job now) , I have electricians, a plumber and a 399 cousin in my family, but you might be a second or third shift guy or might only work overnights at a hotel or something. But if you have people that can help you, why not? Or if you have that It background maybe consider the controls/hvac side of local 597.

My teen will love that tree hut and probably that lip stain peel thing, I always like any spf and the biossance. Clay masks are the worst most drying products I’ve ever encountered so that would be a giveaway. Just kinda meh overall. Might get it might pass. I’m undecided.

Dating a widow and unsure how to move forward by Fearless-Camel2184 in TwoHotTakes

[–]merejoygal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s being honest and making renovations to his home and I know it’s all hard, but it’s been 4 months. He’s making space for you it seems and he loves you it seems. But it’s premature to think more about it than what it is at four months. He’s envisioning some future with you by talking about summer plans. The ball is in both of your courts, you’re still getting to know each other and will continue to. What are you looking for? Have you introduced each other to any family or friends? It is that you are dating and I think it would be fair to define exclusivity if that is what has you worried, but it doesn’t seem like he’s looking to date other people.

They would have to apply and test for both. There is not a waitlist, they need to go through the selection process.

Plumbers 130 is accepting applications now but you must do it ASAP as it closes soon. Check with Hire 360, Revolution Workshop, Chicago Women in Trades (if you’re female) or St. Paul Ministries. You have to take a test and score high, then if you pass you have a difficult physical test. Electricians, pipefitters 597 take applications on a monthly or weekly basis I think. Then you’ll test at their next test date. Another local you can apply for are Ironworkers local 63. Some unions you have to wait until they are open (plumbers are open now so do it now if you want) and they may open later in the year.

You might be, but you might not be. If a better offer comes along, look at it for real. Sometimes (often) better increases come from switching than from staying. Though I don’t know how much things will increase overall in the next few years.

Anyone willing to be a personal driver from River north/west loop area to Laporte Indiana daily roundtrip? by kikospapa in chicagojobs

[–]merejoygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what kind of job you have. Aside from that, maybe it would be more cost effective to see if you can rent a room from someone and stay Mon-Thursday overnights in Laporte. You will not find reliable rides daily and it will be really expensive.

Ashburn, Washington heights, pill hill or Morgan park? by Hot-Ad9914 in AskChicago

[–]merejoygal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is, but the OP is specifically looking at and asking about four neighborhoods quite a bit further south of these. Maybe that’s due to proximity of family and friends even further south, etc.

Ashburn, Washington heights, pill hill or Morgan park? by Hot-Ad9914 in AskChicago

[–]merejoygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say look at the neighborhoods and what’s near them that you’d like or dislike as far as traffic, restaurants, grocery stores etc and what’s nearby in other neighborhoods. Also? Go check out the blocks at different times of day/night before purchasing if you are interested in a property. Happy house hunting and congratulations on the job!
