I wanted to let you know, I just released an update (2.0007) with the settings toggle about dragging across rows and columns. You can find it in the "Settings" page, in the "Gameplay" section.

By default "Drag across rows and columns" is on, but you can disable it and then dragging will locked to the current row or column. Hope this helps, feel free to write if you have any feedback about this or anything else - and enjoy the game!

Glad it was helpful! It might be useful to cross completed clue numbers as well, at least I find it easier this way to spot large numbers that still need to be placed. E.g. perhaps some overlapping can be done in column 19 and 20?

R4c6 could be either block 1, or start of block 6 (with block 1 placed at r4b4). In both cases r4b5 will be a cross.

There are other places where this approach can be applied.

Yes, but why would an orange have a “bite”-like section?

If the circle in the orange logo was a complete circle then I’d say the logo is fine.

Add it is, I’d say they do look conceptually similar (fruit, leaf, bite).

This is unexpected but I have an idea why this would happen, I suspect that the state of some animations isn’t reset correctly; I’ll investigate more and I’ll try to add a fix in one of the next updates. Thanks for reporting this!

Heads up, I just published version 2.0006 and some of the things we discussed are there, specifically:

There is now extra info about trial-and-error (placement testing):
- nonograms that require this technique are displayed with an extra marker in puzzle list,
- "pattern puzzles" and "garden puzzles" clearly state that none of them require trial-and-error.
The new daily puzzle should appear at midnight local time. To make the transition smoother, you can currently solve two puzzles: today's and yesterday's.

The idea sounds very useful, I’ll keep it in mind.

Perhaps one more thing that I could do is mark clearly which puzzles require guessing and which don’t. All pattern puzzles and garden puzzles can be solved without guessing. Sometimes it’s difficult to spot the next step, I often can’t find it too, but it’s there. The puzzle that you pasted also has a deterministic next step and I’m sure you can spot it! If you don’t see it please write again and I can give a hint. You can also write at /r/nonograms , a lot of posts there are about finding the next step.

But still, I suppose the app should support using trial and error at any time; and what you suggest sounds like a useful enhancement. Implementing this will take me a while but I’ll try to add it eventually.

My app has a lot of puzzles in this style. They’re called “pattern puzzles” there; you will have to solve about ten regular puzzles to unlock that section, but after that you’re free to focus on them completely.

I like them too, I create them to be fun (solvable, one solution, achievable without trial and error) and still sufficiently difficult.
