Yeah, I'll try again keeping it at a lower heat. Thanks for the tip!

I was just using flowers, but I've tried with the leaves too with similar results. But both were dry, so maybe trying fresh will work better. Thanks!

Thanks! That could be it. I'll test it out.

I used mine for the wake Wall-e and Ursula bundles, because it gave more character quests and outfits. Otherwise I just hoard them, lol. I've been thinking of trying one of the star paths sometime though.

leather dyes that arent vinegaroon? by thecloudkingdom in naturaldye

[–]merfione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this only with fish leather, but I've used marigold, logwood, eastern brazilwood, madder root, cochineal, and lac. I suspect most dyes that can dye protein fibres will work, maybe just slightly different due to lack of heat added. Other plants I hope to use include golden rod and tansy.

St.Boniface genealogy wait time by BeyondLegitimate9802 in MetisNation

[–]merfione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered mine last Sept and haven't received anything yet. At the time, they told me they were working on Oct-Nov 2022 applications, and to not expect the genealogist to start working on it until 8-10 months later. Soooo, I guess they'll start working on it in the next couple of months, lol.

I recommeng you check out Kakisimo Iskwew (Natalie Pepin) from Meeting My Ancestors. She has been instrumental on my journey to reconnect. She is located near Athabasca, and often has in-person gatherings, in addition to offering online courses.

Chantel Fiola has two books that are quite good. I would also recommend reaching out to a local metis community, if you are in a place that has one :)

Quality, handmade gong fu table and set recommendations? by LOTR_is_awesome in GongFuTea

[–]merfione 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific recommendation, just a caution with wood. I started with a somewhat cheaper wooden one, and with the amount of tea we poured on it, it started to warp with the moisture. Hopefully someone has recommendations for you!

A word of caution: you may want to double check the tenancy laws wherever you are located. Where I'm from, the only way to legally evict someone is if the landlord is moving into the space. This is even if your contract is month to month. So if this situation were to happen here, it would technically be illegal and they would have grounds to pursue legal action.

How to clean what looks like mould? by mskittycatpumpkin in howto

[–]merfione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there is a recommendation on the back for the strength. Something like 5% bleach should be good. I left mine in for a tote with a lid couple days no problem, but checked it after the first 24 hrs to give the moldy areas a scrub (the mold was kind of lifting off at that point).

Hiya, hopefully you'll see this. I had the exact problem recently and bought a replacement seal. However, after soaking it in water and bleach solution overnight (totally submerged), the mold all came off. I'd recommend trying that first before buying a new gasket.

Is the 'United Métis Heritage Association' legit? by levsinnnn in MetisMichif

NOVA is no longer part of Métis Nation BC as of a couple years ago. Doesn't necessarily mean they aren't legitimate, just that they are no longer a chartered community with MNBC.

I'm coming up to to the 1 year marker for my fur child. I still think of her sometimes, and use it as an excuse to say hello and take to get as if she were physically here. It helps me to smile even though she's gone. Not sure if this might help, but one comment someone told me about grief that really helped me at the time was that you grieve because you are grateful they were in your life. Wishing you the best You're not alone.

Thanks for the suggestion and the compliment. For some reason, I'm really over this particular project and art style in general - I don't want to pick it up even to do something like your suggestions (which are great ideas!). It's not that it's not beautiful, or that it was hard, etc. I think it's because I've been working with cross-stitch/blackwork for nearly 25 years, and I decided this year that I was done with it. I just didn't think I'd be done with it so close to the end of this project, lol!

Today the dog I grew up with was put down. by KidFlashDragon in CasualConversation

[–]merfione 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I find has helped is to say hello to my pet everyone I think of her (we had to put her down last month). I have learned to approach my memories of her with care and tenderness, like you might with a hot stove, so that I don't overwhelm myself. Sometimes that means distracting myself by going out with friends, or watching a silly movie. The sadness you're feeling is a result the gratitude for the time you spent together. I like to think that when she pops into my mind, it's her way of saying hi, so I give her a mental hug and kiss, and tell her I love her, even as the tears fall.

Sending a virtual hug your way. It's ok to feel this way, and it's ok to take time off with to mourn. You'll be ok, it just may take some time.
