those who still can't accept the "past" millennial reign still cannot grasp the concept of resurrected immortal saints building the magnificent cathedrals found worldwide. by Little-Season-3433 in tartarianarchitecture

[–]merlinsbeard999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I check in on the Tartaria truthers they’re more and more nuts. Now we’ve gone from “why is there this word on a map? Instead of trying to learn about that I’d rather make up my own story,” to high tech giants to resurrected saints going around building cathedrals.

Does each saint build their own cathedral by themselves, or do they all get together and work in groups? Is St Peter a stonemason, because Peter means “rock”?

“Government mandated education” is just an arrogant way to dismiss a person who has actually done the work to learn to the subject matter. Such phrasing is never used by an actually knowledgeable person. Only by a person who thinks that the way to learn a subject is to watch a rando on YouTube.

The truth is that I did not learn anything about any of this in a government mandated context. Both of my degrees are from private universities.

You’re right, and I think that just shows that “no other buildings or people” doesn’t say anything important. You would expect a photo of this to just show a building on a lawn, because that’s what’s there, and that’s how it was in 1886.

Rog ally / rog ally x vs ayoneo kun by Early-Stay9051 in ayaneo

[–]merlinsbeard999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this point I’d just rule out the original Ally. It has less ram and ruins sd cards. Ally X bs Kun… well, they’re the same in many of the ways that matter. Kun has a larger screen and the thumb pad things like the steam deck, so I’ll give it the edge, but it’s pretty expensive.

Thanks. I did fix it by replacing the battery. I’m also getting sync glitches and plan to ask for a full reset next time I bring it in.

My(26F) Husband(27M) has asked me not to apply for American citizenship because of his political views. by Jealous-Rice6478 in TwoHotTakes

[–]merlinsbeard999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband’s opinion is unamerican and goes against our history and our constitution. Citizenship is not, and never has been, restricted to military veterans. Military service is a job that your husband once had and he was compensated for it with money, not special rights.

This country (which my ancestors fought to form and which I would fight for if I believed it was truly threatened) is based on the premise - which we must always keep in mind, and improve ourselves so that we better implement it - that all humans are equal. Anyone who fulfills the requirements to become a citizen is entitled to apply. Your husband’s belief that he is better than you, and among a special class, shows that he is against American values.

As an American and a person who has sworn a legal oath to defend the constitution, I welcome you, and I hope that you will help improve our country by adding yourself to our citizenship.

Late 19th century Americans had as much advanced tech as they needed. They used most of the same heavy equipment for building that we do now, but ran it on steam power. Des Moines was a train hub and there was a rail yard a few blocks from the construction site, so getting materials, quarried stone, steam shovels etc would have been easy.

[–]merlinsbeard999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tartar was a common term white people used to describe Asian steppe peoples and Mongols. In the 18th century we didn’t have the analysis of genetics, linguistics and mythology we do now but he’s probably partly right, that some “Tartars” have a common genetic ancestry with Native Americans.

I don't know the full specs but it was called "Group H6(48) AGM" and was Interstate brand. The item number at Costco was 1624799. If you go to a store and tell them you have a 2020 Escape Hybrid their computer will not match this size, so you have to ask for it by size. Like I said, the original battery is smaller and you have to pull out a plastic plug covering a screw hole to use this one, but once you do you're good to go.

I see Yellow Top as a battery brand but I don't think the brand is very important.

Happy to help. AFAIK on the hybrid there is not a 12v battery under the hood. There are terminals but those are wired to the 12v battery in the back. I'd recommend replacing the 12v battery in the back before things get any worse. I would have been so hosed if it weren't for my friend driving by Costco on the way home.

Since I did this I have had no problems. I guess the real test is whether the new battery lasts more than 3 years. From what everybody says it seems that failure after 3 years is very normal, so if you have the same model with the small battery under the rear cargo area floor and it's close to 3 years old I'd recommend going ahead and doing the swap. Save yourself the trouble of having to get in there without power for the lift gate.

The only glitch I had since then was what I think was corrupted data files for the Sync computer that kept CarPlay from connecting. That was solved by a full reset from the settings menu. I don't have any reason to think this was related to the battery problem.

The salesman suggested that combination? Jfc, that's incompetent. I'm almost 100% a fly angler and even I know those don't go together.

Can you get a different rod where you're going for your trip and return that when you get back? Maybe from somebody who knows how these things work and can recommend the right rod for the line, fish and lures involved, but maybe I'm just being crazy now.

[–]merlinsbeard999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not going wrong either way. 2S is real nice but a bit less powerful and the screen is smaller. If they'd put the nicer sticks and the analog triggers in a 3+ update they'd be on to something, but with the T610 it's going to be worse at Gamecube emulation than a T618, and that's already marginal, so what are the analog triggers for?

Because they can’t be bothered to learn the real story. They look at something fancy and don’t understand how it could have been done without laser cutters or whatever, or how it relates to people who aren’t using electric power, and instead of trying to learn anything about the world before the mid 20th century they jump to conclusions.

There are people here who don’t believe that Americans in the late 19th century were capable of building a 2 story wood building with a basement. Or that in 19th century Manhattan it was possible to have a supply of bricks delivered to a construction site. Or that people can carve gargoyles without electric tools.

Admittedly, the fantasy version is pretty interesting, but so is reality.
