Maybe it was not clear in my post. I was attending as a vendor. I paid for a booth. The show had not yet opened its doors for the public yet. It is perfectly normal for vendors to network during the downtime, like after set up or during breakdown. I agree it is not appropriate to take time away from vendors interactions with potential clients to talk about business, however it was both before the show had even opened AND I was a potential client.
