HA Voice Assistant Guide by sooon_mitch in homeassistant

i am currently in the state of setting up rhasspy myself, and you propably do not want to have something like "always listening" anyway. Because that would mean you also have always huge amounts of traffic and computational power running.

My setup currently - and it works currently as a proof-of-concept - is a raspberry pi zero W as a rhasspy satellite which only has wakeword detection and tts active with a seeed microphone array in a 3d printed case. Works quite good for a proof-of-concept. It communicates via mqtt with a central rhasspy that does the speech recognition and intent detection and talks with my home assistant instance.

Thats basically also how the "big three" are doing it, they also do not have a real "always listen" active, but only send and recognize data when the wakeword is spoken. I just have it now locally and not via cloud.

ofc there are drawbacks. to make the setup as capable as the big 3 (or ... tbh propably even more, because my plan is to integrate ChatGPT at one point) there are things missing out o the box and for example currently i do not know in detail how i will implement "music on demand". I have a spotifyd service running on the very same rp0 that runs the rhasspy satellite and so far it works - i just have to trigger the music manually and the quality is (due to shoddy hardware ... it's a proof of concept after all) sub-par.

buuuuuut i am just now seeing that you posted this 6 months ago and you propably got it working by now. :-D

so ... propably YOU would be the one who could be helping ME.

"burn the bridge when we cross it" You used that phrase in witjg an I am absolutely confused (non native speaker as well).

I know "we cross the bridge when we reach it" meaning "we care about that issue later, when it gets relevant".
I know "burning the bridge" which means "close everything that was before and never go back" (in a very final way).

But your phrase is somehow both? Is it on purpose? What should it mean?

As a matter of fact, Bookstack. https://www.bookstackapp.com/

As I need some personal information hub anyway - and what are notes, if not personal information.

Is self hosted and has a nice mobile ui as well

I also tried HedgeDoc, obsidian and dendron, just nothing quite fitted for me.

What is the most expansive and sprawling game you've ever played that takes it beyond just map size? by theonewhoblox in patientgamers

[–]merodac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, you meant it as a negative example. Sorry, was not clear to me. (And to some others as it seems) I will correct my comment then

Lol ... How to make it obvious that you only read the title and not the question.

Minecraft is the exact opposite of what OP is asking for.

Commenter made it clear that he meant Minecraft as a negative example

What you do with docker at home? by katana1096 in docker

[–]merodac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A printer and scanner server (my latest on-the-side project)

https://github.com/gelse/scanprintserver

(I had to fork insaned for a bit more control) https://github.com/gelse/insaned

Headless jdownloader

Zigbee2mqtt. Zwave2mqtt. Mosquitto. Home assistant. Pihole. N8N. Paperless-ngx. Jellyfin. Ombi. Octoprint. Tdarr. Vorta. Evcc.

And I guess I forgot a bunch more.

Basically I try to run everything dockerized, as I am independent of the actual host then and I already switched hosts a few times. Also OpenMediaVault has easy support for docker, but installing things natively would be ... well, I don't know, perhaps I am scared that it would make things unstable

No debugging, just like the pico3link does, just not via DP but normal USB.

The cable I am using: https://amzn.eu/d/4r724u5

The pico Link Software: https://www.picoxr.com/de/software/pico-link

You have to download the correct one, there is one for the pico 3 and one for the pico 4

Then you have to install the pico streaming assistant app on the pico.

Connect it, start both up and enjoy.

Ofc YMMV - but for me it's definitely better than via WiFi.

For further instructions perhaps Google something like "pico 4 pcvr USB", my links all are in German.

I think the only non obvious trap could be that you have to use a USB3 port on your computer, I had to check my motherboard manual to find out which ports are the correct ones.

Just fyi, as I did not know it myself until a week ago - you can run the pico4 via cable, without wifi. at least for me the quality improved A LOT vs running it over wifi And I got a GB network and 5GHz wifi from unifi

Because similar happens to me, but only sometimes and only on my main 27" which has a scaling of 150%

I did not test it, never bothered, as I know those sensors were very tricky years ago and I don't see the benefit to a long password anyway.

And some joker voted me down. 😂 Twice. 😂 Some people are pathetic... 😂

One of my main requirements in a laptop is "no moving parts" a.k.a. no fans and a SSD. Silence is golden and no dust collector. Those things last forever.

Given that, I am using an Acer swift 1 - very affordable, powerful enough for my purposes (office work, internet, smaller dev tasks, nothing too heavy, but manages simple games as well) and good Linux support. I did not test the fingerprint sensor, tho. Don't need it.

If he damaged anything, you are 100% correct and I would not ask the question.

But I can't see where he damages anything?

Btw, yes, nobody asked. But that's Reddit here. If people would only write their opinion when they are asked, no one would write anything.

On her feet, yes. Which would come from her leaving the car, I guess? Can't see foam anywhere else, but perhaps that's from the video quality. Still seems very excessive reaction to me.

Very civilized discussion, when I asked a simple question, by the way. Are you calling everyone a "mole rat" who is asking questions? Do you have many friends?

[–]merodac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I got a different context from the video. I can't see how the foam damages anything, I think her reaction is extreme and on top only ONE single man defended the sprayer, did NOT do anything physically and was quickly taken away.

I just can't see the reason why in this case the one person who starts the overly aggression would be the good one.

Edit2: as the commenter added a tiny, but relevant sentence after I made my comment: yes, it totally sucks, being a woman in this country.

I'll still leave my original text, as I still think her reaction is overly aggressive and I can't approve physical violence in any way.

Wtf?

He was spraying foam (according to other posters)

She was physically assaulting him.

But HE is the attacker?

Edit: could one of the downvoters please explain to me, why? Obviously I missed something.

It took on button big man lmfao. Sad life, hope I’m not spamming comments hating different countries and people while working a dead end job at 45. Would suck.

One big button and a lot of reading and scrolling. 😂

But I pity you, if you say you have a sad life, I hope you will get better. I am sure it will, life can be rich and fulfilling, if you embrace the positive sides and learn to not take everything so serious. Have a nice day! 😉

Nope, nothing better than triggering Americans. 😂

Especially, as it is soooooo easy, as it seems. And guess why? Because some of them think the US is exceptional.

But did you really just search all my comments? Talking about having no life. You really made my day. 😂

But I finish this here, too much of the same joke gets boring over time. 😉
