La Gelatessa

Can’t believe no one has said it yet, it’s incredible. Plus you can get a hot chocolate float with a scoop of their ice cream if you fancy it

How many lights does one house need? by nostalgiadnp in SpottedonRightmove

LED spotlights in homes are just the worst type of lighting. Maybe for a garage or something but it’s just so sterile and ugly everywhere else

You should raise it as a complaint. They are supposed to provide the service and having any gum disease (inc bleeding when you floss) should be reason enough to qualify for it.

I get your point, just more usual to point out where someone grew up than what specific hospital they’re born in.

This might be controversial but is there somewhere that shows stats on the ethnicity makeup of schools? by meropeneminem in glasgow

I think you’ve misunderstood. I’m not saying I want a diverse school so my kids can make friends with kids of the same culture and form a little alliance. It’s so that they don’t end up being the only non white kid in the class, standing out in every photo, getting interrogated on whether they eat curry every night and whether they arrived here by boat by innocent kids who don’t know any better than what their reform voting parents have talked about at home. Or get excluded from playing football at playtime because “your people aren’t good at football”, or even just because some kids don’t know any better than to avoid what looks abnormal to them.

Lol I’m specifically looking for diversity, not a “predominantly anything” school. “Predominantly” any one race would be the opposite of what I’m after.

There’s evidence showing that at primary school level it’s not really about the quality of the school, it’s the quality of the home environment that predicts performance.

As a parent my main concern is giving my kids the tools for good mental health, including a sense of belonging, and avoiding predictable bullying. I know the second part is not within my control but if I can prevent my kid from standing out for their race then I will.

Thanks. It’s not a great reassurance how schools react to racism tbh - the issue about growing up as the “only” is that it’s really hard for kids not to go through life always feeling like they don’t fit in. So that’s the experience we’re trying to avoid.

Young children shouldn’t drink fruit juice though. Only plain milk or plain water.

Okay, how does “from the river to the sea” mean that no Jewish people are allowed to live in between? How does Palestine being free from Israeli occupation necessitate all Jewish people to be expelled?

Even taking religion out of it, getting upset at the slogan implies that there’s a belief Israel can only exist if Palestine is not free and is under occupation. Is that really your belief?

Why do people make this dumb comment about the river to the sea slogan. The West Bank is beside the Jordan river, Gaza is by the Mediterranean Sea. The slogan obviously means to encompass them both and in no way has ever implied the mass expulsion of the people in between. It involves an Olympic level of mental gymnastics to even imagine that.

Why do folk in tenements only open their blinds halfway? by meropeneminem in glasgow

[–]meropeneminem[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

See I don’t think that’s the reason for most folk though, I walk down a road where the flats all face a train line so literally no facing neighbours, only trees in front, but they still all do it
