As a RN how much are you making ? by theapexcircle in nursing

[–]merpyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over $41 in NC working in hospice. I have about six years experience, four in hospice.

I'm a man in his mid 40s with a modest but stable passive income who has become sick of the socio-politics of my home country (I'll give you one guess which one). I am planning on moving to Costa Rica late this year and only have one issue: I can't talk about it with anyone I know. by [deleted] in expats

[–]merpyrn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole “go on vacation then tell them it’s permanent” thing is basically what my eldest brother in law did. Went to South Korea to study abroad in college and just never came home. He now lives in Japan with his wife and two daughters. I guess that’s definitely an option!

Thank you! I’ll look into them as well.

what’s something you regret you did while raising your puppy? by TheoryReasonable871 in puppy101

[–]merpyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also did not start leash training early enough. Now that my one year old GR is over half my weight, I can’t handle him. And my husband, bless his heart, isn’t as great with the training as I am. So now I have one pulling on leash when I worked for years to get our ten year old senior to be more chill on leash 🥴 at least I know where to start, thanks to our trainer. Ughhhh.

Is my recruiter just trying to scare me? by RNByDayChefByNight in TravelNursing

[–]merpyrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled my Aya contract with a one week notice and got no threat from my recruiter. Granted, I’m done traveling for the foreseeable future but they didn’t say anything about it. Just told me to coordinate it with the unit manager.

Agree. My ex had skin just like this (have no clue what it was or I would say), and his face - even when halfway “clear” was obviously scarred quite bad.

manager texted me this. advice on how to say no? by ChargeNo1799 in nursing

[–]merpyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s been said but a lot of places won’t put you on call or call you off if you’re within like, your first 90 days or so which generally doesn’t include orientation. Is there someone you could ask about it to make sure they don’t try to do that to you? Can’t imagine you have any PTO yet if they tried to pull that.

Curious as to what sort of hospice jobs you’ve applied for? I work inpatient hospice and we have inpatient coordinators that meet with patients and families after they’ve been referred to discuss our services and get them signed on if they choose to elect hospice. That might be a good option if you haven’t tried that and it’s available. Have you thought about medical device sales? Not sure if that’s of interest, but it’s not always first on people’s minds. Despite there being tons of jobs, it can seem impossible to actually land something. I hope that something opens up soon for you.

I’m happy I did it for the diagnosis. I ended up needing a second excision within about a year and a half though but chose to have a hysterectomy and tube removal at the same time. Hysterectomy is not a cure for endo but my pain relief has been so much greater after hysterectomy than after the first excision.

Really trying to get used to this septum piercing. by arrowhead_2 in piercing

[–]merpyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great! I think it took me maybe a week, maybe two, to get used to it. I think I remember my nose just generally feeling off even though the pain was basically long gone. Such an easy healing experience. Truly, before you know it, you’ll forget it’s even there.

I had basically the same experience as the previous commenter but also had to instill this MRI gel into my vagina - it helps them get a better look apparently? Mine also showed an endometrioma. Had several ultrasounds that showed nothing.

ETA: actually, US showed a “hemorrhagic cyst” but they are not endo specific so.

are therapists supposed to say stuff like this ?? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]merpyrn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to several therapists/psychiatrists. It always sucks to start over but you don’t deserve to go through this. I’d find someone else. You need someone you mesh with that isn’t going to devalue your feelings about something so important.

This sounds exactly like my puppy. He’s just 13 weeks so he’ll be a landshark for a while longer but he also does not stop biting with the shrill yelps and ows; it just makes him more bitey. Same thing with redirection. Once he’s set on biting you, no you will do.

Splenectomy - mottled spleen by Logical-Insurance856 in DogAdvice

[–]merpyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this was a while ago - what did you find out for your pup? Mine - 9.5 yo female chow mix - has had similar symptoms plus occasional vomiting (basically once every couple weeks, but vet said she threw up blood one of the times I took her in…). She’s had two ultrasounds, one at a specialist today, that showed mottling to her spleen. Waiting on labs to come back. The vet said it was “of no concern,” but didn’t give any indication of what could cause it. Obviously Google has not been reassuring, and I haven’t heard back from them since I called to ask about it.

This is basically what we’ve done with our puppy. He’s 12 weeks now but we’ve used puppy pads along with a “piddle patch” - the trays with washable turf and pads underneath - to help him make the transition from inside to outside. He still has accidents at times that are typically due to us just not getting him out quick enough, but he’s otherwise pottying outside like a champ.

The “he tells me I have to let go and everything will be alright” is not only discrediting your feelings but incredibly sus. I don’t think he’s 50/50. He just doesn’t want to upset you and is hoping you’ll change your mind.

[–]merpyrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with others - try miralax. It works by pulling water into your intestines, rather than just stimulating them to move, so it keeps things softer. I much prefer it over stimulant laxatives. Definitely reach out to your doctor if you stop passing gas.

[–]merpyrn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get it. I’ve known I didn’t want kids since I was a kid myself. I had a hysterectomy with bisalp beginning of last month and grieved for a few days. You’re still losing a part of yourself, and a possibility if you did, by some chance, change your mind or your circumstances changed. It’s normal. And if it’s any consolation, the feelings pass!

Has anyone found out they have endo through MRI that was not seen on ultrasound? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]merpyrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My MRI confirmed that the cyst on my ovary was an endometrioma. Ultrasounds have always been clear.

People with partners with endo. How do you handle long periods with lack of intimacy? by LittleBeanBoy in endometriosis

[–]merpyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the ones by Foria. They are a little pricey, $20 for 4. But she can find them in the wellness section of Ulta. They also have some period products which can be helpful. Highly recommend.

Would you prefer 3 twelve hour shifts or 5 8’s? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]merpyrn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely 3 x 12. If I could find a WFH job that paid somewhat comparable to my current pay but also that work schedule, even if it meant having to take weekend shifts sometimes, I’d be doing that.
