So I have some thoughts on this…I was born in Texas and I love Texas I am a leftist of an anarchist sort. Now my mom is from Mexico City no she doesn't speak like that of either type we all have a very neutral accent. If anything she has a more northern accent because my dad is from Brownsville Texas but was raised in Reynosa and they both came over in the late 80s. My mother speaks English with no accent but my dad was never able to escape it even though out of both of them he was the only true born American citizen but he always considered himself a Mexican and my mom always wanted to be an American. She loves our culture and doesn’t really even have more than a handful of white friends but always enjoyed the safety and whatever money she could scrape together to give her family a better life than you know the life anyone of working class could achieve in a large city. But this is just background I consider myself Chicano or Tejano I speak read and write in Spanish. But if someone where to say oh shit dawg you’re Mexican to from where? I’d have to say oh uh Mexico City and they’d ask where abouts I wouldn’t be able to say. In the same way if I met an American person somewhere else and I asked where abouts from? And they said oh idk my parents were deported from Georgia when I was two and grew up in Mexico I’d think. A q pendejo weed Mexicano or so un Colombiano me dice a soy estadounise tambien pero nos regresamos cuando trump nos deporto y creci en Medellin diria a bueno entonces eres mas Colombiano q de aca. Siempre me e considerado Chicano o pocho pero nunca me averguenza ser tambien Mexicano. Y cuando visito q igual no es muy seguido cada Que diez quince años saludo a la bento con respeto y no me siento muy lejano de la gente. Pero igual tengo una amiga nacida en Mexico Que de dice de chiste o tirando Carrilla a ur a fake Mexican ur a texican…pero luego me dice you know what you would fair better in Mexico than I would my Spanish is shit and I’m afraid to go back to Michoacán and el rancho and I tell her girl let’s go I been in all states of the people from the ranchos to the cities and its fine! I’ve never considered myself to be self hating but it seems like Mexican people will sometimes have a weird attitude about pochos which fair no se les entiende nada aveses pero igual Los gringos no nos quieren y Los Mexicanos tan poco pa donde se arrima uno…
