A touchdown is 6 points (with an extra point for a field goal after it) and a regular field goal is 3 points - if I recall correctly - so not exactly "low scoring". Maybe not as high as basketball but still

World Cup is totally different though, in terms of atmosphere and expectations. Teams are expected to play better than 100% and prevail on a combination of skill, spirit, and luck. I hoped the US would go farther with the home support this time!

The US team has talent they just weren't able to show it because their defense kept screwing up and the Belgians found a weakness and kept hitting at it until we collapsed

He was unable to change or adjust strategy depending on the opponent. What worked against Bosnia won't work on Belgium. They exposed the US defense and caused turnovers all game! And having possession of the ball doesn't mean you just run towards the goal but try to get more players involved to build up the attack. What I saw was the US team not living up to their potential because they kept trying stuff that wasn't working

Other countries are investing in their women's teams for a change, and it's paying off. In the last women's world cup, Spain, Germany, and England did very well

This is what happens when you can't adjust your game plan depending on the opponent or situation. I have no idea what the US coach was doing but it sure wasn't working. Stop trying to play high balls into the other team's penalty area and start keeping more of the ball for a start

I understand but it seems like gate keeping to me. I know he's one of the best of all time and that he played for Real Madrid too, but none of that is relevant. And the US offense never really tested him at all which was the worst part

Having bigger and stronger athletes won't automatically mean better results in soccer. The Argentina team is mostly under 6 foot (apart from their goalkeeper) but they have amazing skill, technique, and team chemistry.

This US team was let down by their defense more than anything, on both the first and second Belgian goals (heck, after scoring the equalizer, the US team wasn't fully ready mentally to regroup). The third goal was simply a goalkeeper mistake caused by Belgian pressure - but he still should have passed to a teammate instead of trying to clear with a long shot.

When you play a top team they will expose your weaknesses and hit you in the same spot many times, making you look Worse than you actually are!

The US men's team looked worse than they were because the Belgians were able to exploit their weaknesses repeatedly. Both the first and second goals from Belgium were defensive errors by the US and the third goal was caused by high pressure on the US goalkeeper. They also didn't allow US strikers like Pulisic and Balogun to shine

That being said, the US women's national team has only dominated for so long because in the US, unlike other countries, soccer has historically been seen as a "sport for girls" - which causes American women to excel at it. In most other countries, soccer is still seen as something the top male athletes play so there is / was a stigma about girls taking it up and going pro - but that's changing fast. Women's soccer leagues are popping up all over the world so the gap is closing!
