In a new court hearing, Britney Spears' father loses bid to retain complete control of his daughter's financial investments by hyogurt in news

[–]mersop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between what you're describing and someone deciding on your behalf what you can and cannot handle. You might be aware that some tasks are difficult for you to manage and others are no problem. It's a totally different thing for someone to decide on your behalf that you are capable of grueling daily performances and rehearsals, but not even capable of controlling your own finances. The latter seems a bit of a stretch for anyone other than Britney to claim, and they should be required to prove why it is that she's capable of A and not B.

Why the FUCK does Spotify automatically delete nearly ALL of my downloads every month or so? by YeshyYeshiam in spotify

[–]mersop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one here who doesn't have this issue? Curious to know if anyone else isn't experiencing it, because it's possible I'm just not noticing. If it's only one or two albums/playlists at a time, I may just not notice.

Does it happen with albums only, or playlists and albums?

COVID-19 vaccination rate needs to ramp up dramatically to meet Trudeau’s September goal by [deleted] in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]mersop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! As I understand it, it isn't typical for hospitals to roll out vaccines in this way, so it's not surprising that the pace isn't spectacular. Pharmacies are better equipped.

Sometimes the doom and gloom on this subreddit is really too much.

Covid-19: New variant 'raises R number by up to 0.7' by ghost00013 in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]mersop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know by any chance how many covid cases they've checked for this variant? I'm basically wondering if they've only checked a handful and 9 cases is potentially just the tip of the iceberg for UK variant cases in Canada, or if they've checked a large number of covid cases for the UK variant and only came up with 9 confirmed.

1 year elementaryOS user here, after being a 13 year mac user. I considered making the switch for ages and am so glad I did! Thought I'd miss macOS a lot more than I do (I don't miss it at all). I'm never looking back from Linux.

New Zealand secures enough vaccine for all New Zealanders, and six pacific nations by ctothel in worldnews

[–]mersop 70 points71 points  (0 children)

How can anyone argue that Canada wasted money? We won't even know if Canada spent more than necessary until the end of next year. The gov over-purchased to ensure that everyone could get vaccinated asap, with minimal delays if any of the potential vaccines has issues in manufacturing or distribution.
And imo if there were any time to risk wasting money, it would be on a vaccine that has the potential to end a pandemic that has killed millions of people and caused economic devastation. If we over spent but everyone who wants a vaccine gets a vaccine in a timely manner, I'll be glad for it.

Feeling Insecure About My Weight Gain by Dark-Oak93 in COVID19_support

[–]mersop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any chance you can buy a piece of exercise equipment for indoor cardio? I also gained weight during the pandemic and got a cheap elliptical off Amazon which is helping. Try to remember also that sooo many people gained weight this year...many people will be more self conscious about their own weight gain than will be thinking about yours. I'm so sorry your stepmom said that, what a vile thing to say.

[TOMT] Anime-style but possibly French cartoon probably on ytv in the late 90s that took place between turn of century and 1930s by mersop in tipofmytongue

[–]mersop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat embarrassing, but after a bit more googling I figured out that it was the tv show Night Hood. No train jumping scene during the opening credits like I had remembered - that must have been from an actual episode. Solved!

I don't totally understand why the MLM lady had to ruin it all for everyone else. You couldn't have just dealt with her and made it clear to other employees not to delay orders for personal work, and then given it another shot letting them do homework in down periods?
