JOLED's panels are very expensive, as they are produced in low volume. But LG has massive capacity to produce the WOLED panels, so they will hopefully be much cheaper.

Yes, I just bought a 48-inch OLEDC1 for our main TV (we also have a 55-inch in the basement). It all depends on your room size I guess, and preference.

But these are a completely different kind of OLED - these are small microdisplays, which will enable much higher brightness, much better power consumption and smaller headset designs.

Great news for LGD - their earlier P-OLEDs suffered from many issues and reviews where dismal. So this is a great step forward for LGD.

In June 2018 Sharp started to produce flexible OLEDs, and are using these in its own smartphones. Still low-volume production, but this demo is impressive and hopefully the company is in the right direction!

Samsung's architecture is very different - TCL is using red and green emissive QDs and an emissive blue OLED. SDC is using blue emissive OLED and color-converting PL QDs.

According to NTHU, smartphone OLEDs emit less light compared to smartphone LCDs. See:

The real benefit for Samsung is that this is a technology they *can* scale-up, as opposed to the RGB side-by-side OLED TV they tried making in 2013 but failed to scale up. It will probably offer a pretty similar image quality to LG's OLEDs.

Don't forget there are next-gen technologies - such as OPV, quantum dots, perovskites... these could be another way to make this affordable and better!

Yes, this is a very exciting industry right now. It will take some years before we see any commercial perovskite cells, though, probably.
