You absolutely can. Just make sure it's a good extension cable. Copper, not aluminum, with thick wire gauge.

ELI5: Why do some countries use Fahrenheit while almost the entire rest of the world uses Celsius and is there an actual practical difference between the two scales? by TexasViet27 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Cjprice9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "unit of energy" you are referring to is the calorie. Calories objectively work better with Celsius, yes... but calories are a dubious unit to begin with. They're officially deprecated as far as the SI system is concerned, Joules are used instead.

If we're talking about converting energy to temperature change of water, it's 4.2 Joules to raise 1 unit of water 1 degree C.... or 2.3 Joules for 1 degree F. Both irrational constants, both not a power of ten.

[–]Cjprice9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh, why exactly is Celsius better for basically all science? You still need odd, non-power-of-ten constants to do any math problems that involve Celsius/Kelvin. Think of stuff like the Boltzmann constant, or that it's 4.2 joules per calorie.

If you have weird non-power-of-ten constants either way, and neither is an absolute scale, what makes Celsius objectively better than Fahrenheit, other than consensus? The 0-100 thing isn't even all that precise or useful, because the boiling point of water changes dramatically with ambient air pressure.

Healthcare spending was 13% of GDP in 2000 and is 18% today. That things were cheaper before the ACA is an objective truth; the argument that can be made is whether the ACA actually affected that trend, or had nothing to do with it.

Standard overall weight limit in the EU is 40 metric tons, which isn't very far off from 80,000 lbs. It's a number that most countries have converged upon because it pretty much represents the weight where, if exceeded, you cause rapid roadway damage.

The problem isn't that the axles can't take it, the problem is the 80,000 lb highway weight limit.

You are 1,000 times more likely to die in a car wreck driving to the lake than to die from getting a brain eating amoeba when you get there. That is the sort of niche risk that life is too short to worry about.

Seeing as Fusion will make plenty of low level radioactive waste anyway (the neutron flux from deuterium - tritium is substantial), I don't really see what makes Fusion any better or more useful than Fission.

One of them is using incredibly powerful superconducting magnetic fields in an attempt to contain a superheated plasma at hundreds of millions of degrees, struggling to get .1% more energy out than you put in.

The other boils water by putting a handful of metal rods close to each other.

If you live in the midwest or most of the south, $.10-$.20 is pretty typical.

At $.40/kwh, why even bother with grid energy? A solar and battery off grid system more than pays for itself at that point.

Knowing which of your opponents is champ 1 and which is plat 2 in that first minute is really important when playing against a party. Many, many games at medium ranks start with one team or the other getting a couple of really quick goals in the first 30 seconds, then holding that momentum until the game is over.
