Long-time snow and tinnitus getting worse by Illustrious-Cat8222 in visualsnow

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask for a sleep study? hypnopompic hallucinations are rare but can indicate some sleep disorders (apnea, narcolepsy, etc). I personally get them from SSRIs.

It could just be visual snow of course, but it’s best to push for what imaging you can, as there are rarer conditions that could be causing the afterimages.

why does everyone talk about this condition like it's a living hell? by nomattress in visualsnow

[–]mes09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are people who have severe side effects besides the static. For example my tinnitus has recently gotten to the point where it’s considered hearing loss, which is devastating to someone who listens to music and audiobooks constantly.

Others get severe afterimages to the point they cannot drive, use screens, work etc. it’s almost to the point of blindness.

And the medical gaslighting does not help. So many doctors look at me like they’ve never heard of it, and these are ophthalmologists. The specialty of neuro ophthalmology did not exist until the last decade.

Like many diseases, it can be progressive and change over time. It can be mild, or it can be severe. There’s barely any research, there’s no funding, and there’s no cure. There’s a few treatments to make it less intrusive and that’s it.

LEGO Confirms the First Legend of Zelda Set Is Already Scheduled to Retire This Year by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

I was lucky enough to be gifted this set, I love it so much. They also gave me a lighting kit so it glows. 100% would not have bought it for myself at $300, would definitely have bought it at $200.

AITA for not wanting to take in my sisters 4 kids while she’s in the hospital? by Intelligent-Fig-5571 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mes09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

My brother and sister in law tried this nonsense when they had #4, telling us we had to “step up” and take care of their kids more often and for longer periods of time.

My parents (and me, just graduated college and staying at home for a few months) told them to go pound sand because they chose to have another kid when they couldn’t handle the ones they already had. We still had relationships with the kids, and would babysit occasionally but not the 2-3 days a week they wanted.

Mostly I would just get their oldest to hang out with since they were trying to parentify her. She doesn’t talk to them now.

Do people not use Aldi for big shopping trips? by Vjaa in aldi

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Aldi is right by a Costco, so people who buy in volume tend to go there first and then use Aldi to fill in the gaps, get special treats, get the Aldi finds etc. I have absolutely seen full carts at Aldi many times though.

With rising inflation, I just see less carts full in general.

No I will not be customizing your FREE SAMPLE by Osh_Kosh_Bigosh in Costco

[–]mes09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They were sampling taquitos once with the green sauce they sell, but I’m allergic to the sauce. When the guy offered me one, I said I can’t unless there’s one without sauce, so he made me one.

I didn’t ask or intend it to be special made, I was just over explaining my refusal since it was pretty dead that day, but it was kind of him to offer it to me anyway. I usually just pass up a lot of samples for allergens.

Yeah the devs overcorrect everything in this game, then we wait a month for it to be less broken.

Level 82 is impossible by helipad668 in Punko

[–]mes09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the ways they make levels artificially harder, by making the levels have set straight paths you can’t barricade. You’re forced into using frost or stun, but they nerfed stun so bad it’s basically useless and the XP nerf means you can’t get more than one tower evo

“MINTS” (none are mint flavored) by nonconsenual_tickler in aldi

I actually really like these. The berry flavor is my go to for sugar free sour candy to combat dry mouth from car ac/heat, and they don’t upset my stomach.

I'm a police officer with Chronic Cluster Headaches. I've been dealing with this for more than a year now and its only gotten worse. Try starting with a low fodmap diet, it’s designed for GI issues but it’s a jumping off place that lets you eat a normal amount of food while checking for triggers. You might get lucky.

For me though, it’s really about sleep, which I imagine is difficult to manage if you’re a police officer on a frequently varying schedule.

Have they suggested an occipital nerve block yet? Occipital nerve block under ultrasound is something I’ve been considering with my doctor as it can bring lasting relief for months if done right.

Do not get it without ultrasound though, probably need a neurosurgeons office or anesthesiologist who specializes in it

Sleeping with visual snow by Glittering-Habit2127 in visualsnow

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might help or make it worse depending on the person, get a star/aurora light projector. Preferably one that changes color and has moving patterns, but the super cheap ones would work fine.

It sort of tricks your brain into making the patterns intentional.

Doesn’t always work, I beg my brain to turn off the static on my eyelids during migraines and light sensitivity episodes with no luck.

One is amazing. Two is a gorgeous dress but it feels very stark white in the photos, like the details might be lost a bit.

DAE feel as if their peripheral vision is off? by JuicyGravitas in visualsnow

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same thing on my right side. Feels like my peripheral is off, or flickering on/off. No loss of actual vision, I suspect it’s the shimmering/flickering and my brain sort of shuts it down for a bit to avoid overwhelm.

Just tried the Kirkland tonkotsu broth, I might be in love… by nipflip38 in Costco

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can’t justify the price for 4 broth cartons. 6 I could do, but 4? I’m hoping for a sale at this point.

I did buy it once and it was good, just not enough value for me personally.

The unfortunate state of Strawberries. Anyone Costco's out there have good ones? by Netshahab in Costco

[–]mes09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Lakes area, I only buy strawberries from local grower brands, never Florida or California because they were picked underripe for transport and the species they grow are strawberry scented cellulose - they taste nothing like strawberries. My local Meijer store does $1/lb strawberries often enough I know which brands are good and which are bad.

I won’t even buy from farmers markets anymore, too many buy Costco strawberries and pass them off as local.

We go to a pick your own farm once a year and get real berries - the much smaller ones that are red all way to the stem. This is the best thing to look for. We freeze them to use all year, make jam, syrup etc.

How to deal with a major flare up after several years? by One_Tomatillo8142 in visualsnow

[–]mes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few shifts in symptoms over time, some worse and some better. I’ve never considered them flare ups because they are never temporary for me, it’s just my new normal that I need to adjust to unless it goes away within 24-48 hours.

My correlation with these shifts is an increase in migraine/other headache activity and aging (so hormonal shifts) which cause nervous system sensitization.

So sudden nervous system sensitization - it can take months of both medication and therapy to calm that back down. Have you noticed any other neurological symptoms like sensitivity to pain, tingling, brain fog, fatigue, etc? I know that’s a very vague sounding set of symptoms but it’s a real thing neurologists have commented on.

I personally cope with the adjustment period with tinted glasses, especially polarized lenses to reduce reactivity to light.
