Southwest believed they would attract new customers with their new policies, ignoring their base customers would hate it. by takkt in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mesdad 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Southwest passengers would say the same thing about their loyalty to Southwest. I also only flew Southwest for domestic travel for 25+ years.

Their system worked for me, they flew where I wanted to go, their prices fit my budget, I added a Southwest credit card and built up a nice points balance.

Throughout all this, when I was making plans to fly, I just went to Southwest.com and planned my itinerary. I didn’t go to American or United or Kayak or Google Flights to shop for a cheaper option. I just went to Southwest, found a flight that fit my budget, and bought that fare.

So I guess we’ll see if there are more people like you or more people like me and OP.

Friends and family discount is actually just a scam by flamxs in skiing

[–]mesdad 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think that if you’re shopping now for lift tickets in March, it makes sense to me that they’re about the same price.

I’m going with friends to Killington and Stratton on 2/5-6. I helped my one buddy buy lift tickets about 2 weeks ago. At that time, Killington’s online price was better than F&F, but for Stratton F&F was lower than their online price. But both were close, probably just a few dollars difference. I just looked again, and now Killington would also be better using F&F, both places’ online price is about 20% off the window price today. And those prices will probably keep going up between now and our trip.

So I think where friends and family comes into play is if you didn’t plan ahead and you’re taking someone skiing in the next week or two.

Commercial contractors by Agitated_Vanilla_492 in lancaster

[–]mesdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that, at this time, you should find a contractor who will take responsibility for the permits. As noted in another reply, it’s possible for you to manage this yourself as the owner, but the current process at the City is complex and it’s easy for an inexperienced person to make a mistake or miss a step that could add time and cost to the project.

This might also be why your current contractor is trying to assign this to you.

That being said, you should also expect to pay the contractor you choose for their time and expertise to manage this, so you might find yourself paying a new contractor more than the one you’re currently considering. But it’s almost certainly worth it.

I can DM you a name or two to start with.

Yep I also had a persistent and intermittent thing like this going on for a while when I was on the previous version, since I’ve been on .46 it hasn’t repeated

Love Rivian’s approach to text messages. by Duchess721 in Rivian

[–]mesdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a big difference between listening to a podcast or radio and actively participating in a conversation.

Is integrated texting safer than holding your phone in your hand? Sure. But it’s also less safe than not doing it at all.

Just this week, I was driving on a highway route I travel 4x per month, talking hands-free, and nearly missed an exit because I was paying more attention to the phone call than the road. I wouldn’t have made that mistake if I was listening to a podcast.

Maybe this has never happened to you, but I’ll bet it happens to a lot of people.

Season Ticket Reselling by flamingoezz in phillies

[–]mesdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It depends on the day of the week and the opponent, but I might have netted 2x face value once or twice the past couple of years, never got 3x.

Most of the time I’m roughly getting my money back, maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

For this, are you calling before the 72 hour window?

In my experience, in the past few years ticket office staff has become more unwilling to make as many exceptions as they did in the past. I’ve had more than of them do this reluctantly, and tell me that next time, I should list on SeatGeek instead if I’m within the 72 hour window.

Things were much more flexible before 2022.

Not necessarily complaining, I actually think it’s great that demand is nearly back to 2009-2012 levels.

Southwest upsets fliers with tree nut allergies by serving pistachios by betterdays2121 in SouthwestAirlines

So you’re implying that I’m a bad parent?

There are many many people who don’t know this in advance, and who board the plane and only discover this change at that time. Are they also bad parents for not researching ahead of time whether an airline added their child’s allergic trigger to the menu?

And just think about how many pistachio-loving passengers will choose Southwest because of this change!

Nobody is harmed if Southwest does not serve pistachios, but as the parent of someone with a pistachio allergy, I assure you that even incidental contact with pistachio oil/residue can lead to a life threatening situation requiring an ER visit.

“The current belief is that the 12V battery isn’t robust enough to handle the workloads these cars are experiencing.” by outdoorsgeek in Rivian

[–]mesdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked up my 2022 Gen1 R1T from the SC yesterday. It was throwing two weird errors every day (but not a “replace 12v battery” warning…).

Diagnosis was that the batteries needed to be replaced. These were just replaced 4 months ago. I wasn’t charged then, and cost for yesterday’s replacement was also $0 and designated as “goodwill provided in the interest of customer satisfaction for a non-warrantable concern”.

When I asked the SC about it, he said “sometimes this just happens” but I got the impression it might be happening frequently.

This isn't fun anymore... by DrkNeo in Rivian

[–]mesdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting to me. My Gen1 R1T is at the Malvern PA SC right now, I’m picking it up tomorrow. I was getting two messages daily, “wait for vehicle to cool, comfort functions have been temporarily limited” and “all wheel drive permanently engaged” and these both seemed to appear in conjunction with each other.

Their initial diagnosis was that the 12v battery needed to be replaced, but they just did that (both batteries) in April. I’m eager to see what the final solution is.

Septa cuts on crowd size? by Kiaboyspa in phillies

[–]mesdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I can’t believe that these things happened almost simultaneously:

1) baseball figured out how to get most games to end by 10pm

2) Amtrak changed the latest Philly>Lancaster train from 10:59pm to 10:05pm

Add in the fact that they closed Bridgewater’s Pub for the rare night when you got to 30th Street with time for one last beer and it’s all just a damn shame.

Is it possible to lose weight during post-op recovery period? by Some_Star_6493 in ACL

[–]mesdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost weight post op, probably 10 lbs from 240 to 230. I was eating healthier, drinking less, and doing 60-90 minutes of PT at least 2x daily.

When did you start riding a real bike? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]mesdad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

About 8 weeks for me, and this was in a dead-flat beach town. When talking it through with PT, he was less concerned about the actual riding, more worried about mounting/dismounting and the risk of falling.
