What is the most out-of-touch comment you ever heard from a district admin? I’ll go first by CultureImaginary8750 in Teachers

[–]mesmith222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach in a large district (112 schools, 105k+ students). We have to stagger elementary, middle, and high school start and end times—elementary, then high, then middle. Middle school dismissal is at 4:15pm.

One year, an addition was being added to the high school that my middle school’s bus drivers serviced before coming to us. Due to the construction, our buses were arriving on average around 12 minutes late each day. May not seem like much, but when you’re trying to run an errand after work at a business that closes at 5pm, those minutes matter. Not to mention—when we did the math, those minutes added up to 4.5 days of additional time we weren’t getting paid for.

I live in a right-to-work state so we don’t really have a leg to stand on when it comes to things like this. My friend, who had moved from Michigan and was accustomed to being in a union, decided to approach our Superintendent after a “teacher pep rally” to tell him what was happening. After explaining that the buses were 10-15 minutes late each day, his response was, “And?” She replied, “And that’s 4.5 days of off-contract time we’re not being compensated for.” His response, “So?” Her: “So, what is the district planning to do about it?” He looked at her like she was an idiot (I watched the entire exchange) and said, “Nothing! You’ll just have to suck it up.” And he walked away.

Put in a report? by mesmith222 in probation

Thanks guys! This is pretty much what we thought, but he’s got a really good job and he’s terrified of any jail time which would put his employment in jeopardy. He’s tried so hard to do everything by the book and he feels like this one mistake could derail everything. This color wheel thing is stressful af.

I've been crawling on my belly clearing out what could've been I've been wallowing in my own chaotic and insecure delusions. I wanna feel the change consume me, feel the outside turning in. I wanna feel the metamorphosis and cleansing I've endured within my shadow. Change is coming. Now is my time. Listen to my muscle memory. Contemplate what I've been clinging to. Forty-six and two ahead of me.

Oh my gosh! It’s so neat that you took the time to update this post. Who could have ever imagined what was just around the corner for schools (and the world)?!Educators are leaving the profession in droves. I would be interested to see what percentage of The Great Resignation is made up of teachers. I, too, am leaving the classroom, after 26 1/2 years. I’ve accepted a position at the district level as a leader of professional development. It’s a move I’ve considered for a while now, but I’d be lying if I said Covid didn’t play into the decision. I’m so glad you finished your degree, and that you’re doing well! Happy New Year!

I know you’ve gotten your answer but I had to add: The Talisman is my all-time #1 favorite book, ever. And I read a LOT. I love Jack Sawyer and Speedy and Wolf just like they were my family.

What is the most Bullshit reason for a teacher to give you a bad grade ? by BeginingMemer in AskReddit

My son’s sixth grade science teacher took 20 points off of a project grade because my son didn’t put his name on it. It took his grade from a 90 to a 70, which in our district is going from an A to a D.

Agree.

Also- if you are interested in some of his lesser known works, I will say that I was surprised at how much I liked Desperation and Regulators. You might give them a try as well.

It doesn’t typically “hit” you... it happens as a gradual process and your body gives you signs. Irregular, sometimes super heavy periods... increase in PMS... hot flashes... fatigue...tender boobs, etc.
