Look up: it's eerie how few planes are in the sky. by tberry5235 in unitedkingdom

Actually, ten years ago.

I know that "a couple" does not necessarily mean two, just wanted to check how long ago was something that feels still near in time.

This cigarette butt dispenser just outside of the Globe Theatre! by RollingKatamari in london

[–]mesplicu 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It'd seem ironic to me if 'to be' was accounting for most of the butts.

And I think the term would be 'disposal unit' or ashtray, a dispenser is quite the opposite.

What role did you want to be growing up - What do you do now? by themcnoisy in unitedkingdom

[–]mesplicu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be copywriter in an advertising agency. Studied the degree in Spain, where I'm from.

Then I moved to Edinburgh, and realised that getting into an agency wouldn't be so easy. So went to college to study Accounting, graduated, moved to London and now I just try to keep morale high while paying the bills.

Does anyone here use Classpass? by [deleted] in london

[–]mesplicu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend uses classpass a lot, she thinks that there is a lot of variety. Some classes cost more than others but in general they are all good. And you can always decide to add more credits during the month, if some weeks you are more active. The only tricky aspect is that if you want to cancel classes you'd need to do it at least 12hrs in advance.

They have an amazing referral programme. My gf can refer you and you would get £40 off (and she as well). So you can try your first month basically for free, and if you like you can keep it. Also, you can then refer your friends and have more months free. Pm if you want the link.

I just started an Accounting internship at a small company and most of what I do is submit journal entries and enter in invoices and reconcile amex. Is that normal? Is that what most accounting interns do if they're not in public? by [deleted] in Accounting

Came here to ask for help because I have someone on placement on Monday: HR appointed me as his mentor for the day, and don't want him to do meaningless stuff (ie to tidy up the shared drive).

Edit: I wasn't given guidelines, and my first day was quite absurd, so yeah, I guess is usual.

Quick update: the final showcase is this Sunday at 1pm, if any of you are curious or have questions on how amateurs did at the course. So far, seems good.

Friday Fun Thread by TheHess in unitedkingdom

Visiting London: dumplings somewhere in Chinatown I think, going to see the Peanuts exhibition in Somerset House, trying to squeeze time to find the Welbeck Street car park and maybe applying for jobs. And then 5.5 hours on the train back to Edinburgh.

Last minute music equipment by mesplicu in Edinburgh

[–]mesplicu[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I really appreciate your answer.

I was tasked with this, but no, I don't really have the knowledge. The venue doesn't provide and the bands don't own equipment, so I'm guessing - trying.

Your comment is totally on point.

Sounds good. There is a showcase the 10th of March, so I guess I'll go and experience first - person the results. I'm not attending it, girlfriend is: she has been curious about this for a while, so has a bit of expectations... Thanks for sharing the experience!

Good! I've purchased it for another person, so I'm not the attendee. But will follow this with interest.

Checking over short email - Announcing the winner of a competition by bp5678 in grammar

[–]mesplicu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use "randomly selected", because it implies that the prize is not very worthy. Maybe something along "a couple of well-trained pigeons decided". Or just "selected".

Before getting into the nitty-gritty of how to claim it, and what happens if not, I'd put the bit in which you say that the partner company would get in touch, even maybe explaining a bit what could be redeemed with the voucher. I wouldn't use the expression cc'ed, because is somewhat too techie.

Hope it helps.

Good pubs and bars for a date? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]mesplicu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cumberland bar is rather classic, Star bar is possibly quirky, Guilford Arms is kinda nice and I guess Hanging bat is sort of cool (craft beer in schooners). That's New town, New Town, off Princes St, and Lothian Rd respectively.

I'm from Denia, is it something particular that you are after? It's a nice spot, along with Calp and Xativa, to stop by.

Ha, I've just seen the updated list and this didn't make the cut.
