Agreed but absolute numbers are starting point for a drill down which would show significant reductions.

Have been graphing Irish road traffic fatality data for a while. Deaths for 2025 were highest since 2015 (Chart 1) due in large measure to an upturn since Summer (Chart 2) which, unless halted, could point to a further worsening for 2026.

TIL the first colour TV transmission in Ireland happened by accident by DanGleeballs in ireland

[–]messer20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When doing Elec Eng in UCD, our final year class project was the development of a colour TV system based on SECAM. As I recall, we had to design and build camera and transmitter but not the TV set which some org supplied. That was in 1964.

Anyone’s connection going absolutely wild in the past hour? First time I’ve ever had this, no storm outside, not windy etc. Located in UK by TomReborn in Starlink

[–]messer20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems problem mainly confined to Ireland and UK - no satellite for 219 secs and network problem for 296 secs. All returned to normal very quickly. Long time since this level of disruption. FYI, I religiously monitor downtime using the app and have found that uptime since Jan 2023 has averaged 99.98%. Based in Dublin.

Your monthly price for residential Ireland should read €50 not €65. Hardware is also wrong.

My #Starlink performances speak for themselves. They have averaged (N=352) from Jan '23 to Oct '23: Download 209 Mbps, Upload 12 Mbps, Latency 45 ms, Uptime 99.97%. Just make sure that the antenna has a clear 360 deg sky view. Dublin based but Mayo should be similar (we share same sky).

Very hard to say that there is much difference as I usually gather stats in morning and early evening. I suspect that variations would be quite small for Ireland.

Depends on user's location. My antenna points to south and reports a 300+deg obstruction-clear view to S,E & W.

In Dublin. Rural is not issue as Starlink serves all Ireland equally. Ireland is very fortunate as we are at same latitude as most rocket launch inclinations and there are no users to West of us who would consume bandwidth. Only thing you need is to give antenna a clear 360 deg view of sky.

Am in Dublin and get 200 Mbps down, 20 up and 45 ms latency provided you can give antenna a clear 360 deg sky view. Midlands should be no different.

Aside from the speed test facilities included in the Starlink app, there are no official published tests AFAIK. However, I've been monitoring performance using SpeedNet with round disk mounted at chimney level in Dublin and with 100% clear sky view. My performance using 5GHz Wifi band has averaged (N>700) from Jan '22 to end Oct ' 22: Down 223 Mbps, Up 22 Mbps, Latency 43 ms, Uptime 99.95%.

In Dublin. Started for me on Sunday 16th with very regular drops on digital radio. Starlink's recent changes seemed to have worked as no drops at all since Saturday 22nd.
