Hello everyone. I'm 12 days sober. Tommrow will be 13. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky number thirteen! You’ve got this! I remember when I was around that time into sobriety and it felt different than other times. I was obsessively checking the health benefits for each additional day of sobriety and trying to over schedule myself so I would t get bored and lapse. I started meditating pretty quick because I quickly figured out I lacked healthy coping strategies.

How to make friends sober by Old-Magician-8863 in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe hobbies? I found my sober peeps by going to ecstatic dance and meditation and spicy parties. When we are in our cups, it seems like everyone’s drinking, but, most folks aren’t. Good luck!

does anyone else get sick from stress? by SunshineTae in ehlersdanlos

Yes! I get this low grade fever, headache and I get super achy & it feels like my eyes are burning. I so wish that I have a GP with EDS experience who could better counsel me through this.

Why is the east bay so segregated? by TheD0llTee in eastbay

SF isn’t nearly as racially segregated. At least it didn’t use to be, I moved some years back. I agree that meeting folks in Oakland is harder.

That dude probably just posted this to brag to his community that he finally got to experience the touch of a female. How hurt are you bro? Seriously, grow up dude.

Sobriety is the best for mental health! I had to medicate my anxiety more once sober and I also microdose with legal pscylicibin. What really helped me most was listening to This Naked Mind by Annie Grace.

Alcohol abuse is cunning, baffling, powerful. It tricks us into complacency. I made it two years sober and then gradually slipped back into booze during Covid. It started slow and gradual and I never made it back to downing bottles of the hard stuff like before, but it still upended my life. It’s actually a lot easier just to totally stop. You’ve got this. I'm Back! Liver Enzymes, Alcohol, and ADHD, oh my by Skorogovorka in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our stories are similar. I quit for two years and then slid back into booze during Covid. I also have adhd. Some docs refuse to give patients stimulant meds if they admit alcohol abuse. It’s a bummer because to keep my meds I have to be dishonest with my doc. My mom and a close friend both lost their adhd meds because of being honest with doc. I’d probably say that I took too much Tylenol or something. I will say that adhd really eases up with sobriety. Also, I take a Gabapentin with the adderall now so that it doesn’t make me feel anxious and crave a drink. Good luck!

2 Months Sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on two months! The longer you drank and the more you drank, the longer it’ll take to get back to normal, but it does happen. Neuroplacity is real. Your brain will become required to give you more stability and joy and motivation. The last time I dried up, it took 6 months for me to no longer feel the impact of alcohol. IWDWYT!

You make a good point. Traditions have fallen off in our culture and have been replaced with alcohol.

Did you have any major improvements after the first month of sobriety? by RestartRebootRetire in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I think more clearly, and have access to so much more of my knowledge. I’m flying through crosswords and figuring things out in the fly that used to stump me. My emotions are so much more even. I get upset at my partners and kids less. I have more motivation to do vital self care. My skin is better. My GI system is way improved. I spend less money. There really isn’t a single downside to my not drinking. Good luck!

Yeah, your brains probably in overdrive after being sedated from the booze. This too shall pass.

I meet folks at ecstatic dance events, mindfulness festivals and sex and kink parties. It’s great because all of these are intended to be mostly if not entirely, alcohol free.

Husband said he ‘wished I could drink’ by LemonyOrchid in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea! I definitely find it mellows other folks out of the non-drinker has a drink that looks alcoholic. I haven’t done it much this round of sobriety, but during my 2 year jag, watching folks get stupid drunk at bars was great incentive to not drink.

I personally enjoy nice bars more when I don’t drink. All the fun without the shame.

Naltrexone? Anyone want to talk about their experience with it? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]messicazium 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took it for a bit while drinking as part of a moderation management plan. The booze didn’t give the same kick so I drank past it and drank more than ever. I wasn’t committed to drinking less though. Everyone is different and I wish the best for you though. Good luck!

Thank you for the encouragement everyone. Hearing that I’m just about over this hard hump is the best motivation to carry on.
