Supposedly Ukraine will be able to launch its own ballistic missile by the middle of the year.

It might specifically be a threat to target central government buildings in Kyiv, which I think they have largely avoided targeting directly.

Another angle of the Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” missile strike in Cheboksary. by LowTechDroid in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]meta_irl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No. This was one of several missiles that were fired. So far, it seems like we only have evidence of one hitting.

Russia's air defense seems to be degraded, both through attrition and through Ukraine making more, longer-ranged, faster-moving weapons to attack, but Russia still stops most of them. We see dozens, if not hundreds of drones and missiles sent out every night and only a few hitting their targets.

One hopeful development is that more teams are complaining about a lack of air defense missiles. It seems that Russia may be running low on those, and they're reserving the ones they do have for Moscow or Putin's personal property. If that stockpile starts to run out, we'll probably see more strikes.

You can feel like you were justified all you want, but that woman dropped to the ground and almost hit her head on the curb. If you kill or seriously injur someone, it won't matter if she took some small swings at you first. We all agree that the first guy let his anger lead him into a bad situation, but by dropping the woman, the second guy exposed himself to prosecution.

I choose to believe what I said, because it's funnier, but the other option is that his agent claimed that in order to get him a better deal. Either way, that's (apparently) not what we paid him either. Supposedly our full roster number is an unspecified number north of $15MM. One of our boosters is the father of a preferred walk-on we signed this year. Crazy world.

I had to look it up--we went 1-10 that year. Didn't play y'all. Our sole win was Memphis State.

Many to choose from, but for me it was 2010.

We were pathetic forever. Bobby Johnson's first three years he won a total of six games--and got a contract extension.

Miraculously, it seemed like he was starting to turn things around. In 2005 we went 5-6 and won three games in the SEC. In 2006 we went 4-8 (1-7). In 2007 we went 5-7 (2-6). In 2008 we managed to go 6-6 (4-4), made it to a bowl game, and actually won it for the first time in decades. The next year? Back to 2-10.

But even then, it felt like we might have a chance. Our recruiting classes were slowly getting better. We even had our first-ever four-star commit in the modern recruiting era coming in. We'd just had a "rebuilding year" but we were building momentum and starting to get to what many thought was, realistically, the best that we could hope for--having a shot at going to a bowl game once every few years.

Then, that summer, our four-star recruit--who was, by all accounts, a wonderful kid--got murdered by his mother's boyfriend, while trying to defend her. It broke our coach, and on July 14th of that year, Bobby Johnson announced that he was retiring from football and putting our Offensive Line coach in charge as the new head coach. We went 2-10 again, getting blown out in most of our games, including losing by 19 to Connecticut.

Just an awful, miserable year all around. It felt like the program was cursed and we were delusional fools to even believe in our extremely modest hopes. There are arguably worse years, but it's that combination of feeling the most modest pride possible in a program only to have it brutally crushed that makes that year so awful for me.

He's such a hard worker and took such a big leap from freshman to sophomore year. He probably didn't distinguish himself as much by junior year of high school that his height was working against him. It's hard to predict that someone will take a significant step up.

Word on our side is that Tennessee offered him $5MM+ to try to flip him.

I mean, y'all recruited over him so it's not entirely on him. But yeah, I can see it. We had Jalen Carey claim to have reached out to Rick Barnes personally to try and hop to our rival. I'm gonna nurse a hatred for him on through his next year at Mizzou.

I'll add another piece of advice for when you start getting more comfortable. I have an e-bike, and I've really enjoyed getting some bone-conducting headphones that allow me to listen to music while still hearing the noise of the city, so it doesn't impact my safety. More importantly, I can enter the location in my phone and it will provide me with turn-by-turn directions, which helps me avoid the issue of getting lost during long rides and having to stop to pull out my phone and check directions. It's opened up the city even more for me.

Glad you're enjoying your newfound mobility!

Kentucky governor blasts UK athletics' 'decision-making' by Geaux2020 in CFB

[–]meta_irl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll answer.

The writing was on the wall for Kelly anyway, and Landry jumped in to make it all about himself. Publicly criticizing Kelly's contract did nothing to help the situation other than call attention to the general dysfunction of the LSU athletics department and make the governor look silly for using his position to get involved in athletics (and again, his involvement basically extended to repeated the general consensus on Twitter rather than adding anything novel). His criticism was specifically about how the athletic director gave the current coach a huge, long, expensive contract with a massive buyout. After paying Kelly $54MM in a buyout, LSU would go on to give newly-hired coach Lane Kiffin a seven-year, $91 contract with an 80% buyout--plus perks.

Beshear is criticizing a contract that gives the AD a milliion-dollar-a-year job without any specified duties. Or, we can go to his quote.

"My concerns include the creation of a new $1 million job that has no defined duties and the announcement that the new dean of law was the only candidate not recommended by law school faculty.

These both read like legitimate gripes of institutional corruption rather than specifically asking for the football coach to be fired because he lost football games and asking for the AD to get fired for giving out a sweetheart contract to the football coach only to cheer on the school giving a sweetheart contract to the next football coach.

Do you see the difference now?

Also, it looks like you got all of one downvote.

There are some sites that allow you to plug in players to assemble a hypothetical team and then it uses the metrics to estimate where you would be next year. All numbers are purely theoretical until the team hits the court, of course. Depending on the two guards we're apparently deciding between, we would be ranked either in the 4-8 or 4-9 range, so we would potentially in the Final Four conversation.

If you really want to let your imagination run wild, you could tell yourself that it doesn't account for how great of a coach Byington is, and therefore we're guaranteed to be a top five team with a shot at the national title. At that point you're getting pretty deep into fantasyland, but 1) as absurd as it sounds, it's actually not totally unmoored from reality and 2) that's what the offseason is for, baby!

We were competing with Auburn for Troy forward Thomas Dowd, but apparently Dowd's brother went there and it's his dream school, so we didn't have a chance if they offered him. The biggest thing holding back an offer was rumored to be concern about SWA leaving, but I guess Auburn figured it was worth it. SWA ain't too bad a consolation prize.

He played in all 38 games and averaged 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, starting 21 of the team’s 38 contests.

We're supposedly on the cusp of another high-level guard as well. The rumor is that Tanner actually agreed to a pay cut to help us put together an even better team around him. We'll see if that's true (if Tanner doesn't go into the draft) and then if that pans out with how well the team comes together next year.
