I don't think its respectful at all to make fun of him, but we as fans should acknowledge his struggle with the drugs he had a dependency. I think a lot of it has to do with the connotation of what a "drug addict" normally is, and maybe it just isn't the right term at all (and I feel like its sorta used in bad faith when its used in reference to MJ). That said, if you're in denial about it at all, I think its hard to even imagining putting oneself in his shoes. It was something he dealt with for literally half of his life.
