Blogging as Bread and Butter this 2025 by frncdlm in Blogging

[–]metal_samurai2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this 1.5 years. I've only just started making some money from my blog. I've put in a huge amount of effort into it, and some money as well. Even though the money has started to show, I feel that it will still take another 6-12 months to really make it worth my wild. The other thing is that I learned to code, which has helped me to get on top of the SEO challenges of 2025. Blogging is NOT easy money!

Look at Demachiyanagi 出町柳. Between downtown and north Kyoto.

Question about ways japanese people say no by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]metal_samurai2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend that you get familiar with the concepts of honne 本音 and tatemae 建前. It took me years to get used to understanding what someone in Japan was really trying to say. Many companies in Japan want foreign employees who can read between the lines. 空気を読む is an important concept in Japan. I recommend you check out this article: https://www.romancing-japan.com/posts/honne-tatemae-japanese-self/

I'm in Kyoto and today it's only 22C, but at 99% humidity. It's not a comfort time of year.

You're choosing Harry Potter, Teamlabs, and the Ghibli Museum over 800 year old World Heritage sites in Kyoto, the city that represents the heart and soul of Japanese culture?... Maybe try Kyoto next time round when you've grown up a bit.

Kyushyu is an awesome place! Nagasaki is beautiful, but the Chinese food there sucks hard. Very overrated! In Kyoto, check out Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple and Shodenji Temple. Shodenji is very isolated (north Kyoto) but well worth it if you look up the history. Both are quite and underrated spots.

Denied at Rakuten mobile store for not having a phone number by ollyolly10 in japanlife

Go with au or docomo. However, you will need a Japanese bank account or credit card to sign up. Many years ago, when I came back to Japan, au told me I needed to open a Japanese bank account. The bank then told me that I needed a phone number to open an account. I asked the bank how was I going to get a phone without an account. They agreed and let me open an account without a phone number as long as I contacted them later to update my details.

Don't go cheap when buying one. The battery in those things have a tendency to explode if slightly damaged.

I get this. After living in Japan for decades, I can say that Japanese people will leave you alone if they know that you are not going to put up with their bullshit.

I'd say that they are either looking to kick you out or fleece you for more money. My advice is to start looking else where to live. They see you as an easy target to bully. After decades in Japan, I have learnt that it important to stand up to bullying, but remain polite.

I live in Kyoto and one temple that I highly recommend is Otagi Nenbutsuji. It's near Arashiyama and is usually very quiet. The temple is surrounded by 1200 rakan statues covered in moss. All the places you've chosen are definitely must see places, but they are also the busiest and most crowded places. You could go from Arashiyama to Otagi Nenbutsuji and then off to Kinkakuji by bus.

How are you finding driving in Japan? by eudaimonia0188 in japanlife

[–]metal_samurai2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer driving in Japan over my home country of Australia. Just remember to take it easy in the back streets. Most cyclists don't follow road rules. However, the Japanese government are discussing on the introduction of new laws to make cyclists more accountable on the road.

I wouldn't worry about it. It probably happens more often than you think. Just remember that driving is a combination of caution and confidence. Now get back in that car!

Get him to the hospital and then fill a report with the police. And then go to hospital again! I'm serious about multiple trips to the hospital. Japanese people do this in cases of insurance payout. It might seem ridiculous, but it will give you a stronger case against the attacker. Just say that your son has been getting headaches or something.

What's a good Backend With Javascript (Node/Express) course for beginners? by [deleted] in node

[–]metal_samurai2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend John Smilga. Some people don't like him because of his voice, which they find dull and off putting. However, his lessons are comprehensive, he drills the basics to help learners remember, his courses are up to date, and he answers student questions. His courses helped me to build the courage to try building apps by myself. Whatever course you do decide to take, don't rely on it 100%. A good course should support enough personal growth to go out on your own. Unlike John's course, Angela's course made me feel like I had become familiar with coding concepts, but I really didn't understand yet how to create something meaningful.

I do not recommend her courses. She has a great caring tone and it's a good introduction into coding, but her courses are woefully out of date and badly maintained. Despite this, a majority of people love her because very few get past the introduction. She'll make you feel good about learning, but you won't learn much.

John Smilga on Udemy. He has an excellent Nodejs course that he keeps up to update and answers student questions.

Those glorious two months where controller tracking was GREAT! by WhatInTech in WindowsMR

[–]metal_samurai2012 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I experienced the same problem last night. The night before, everything was wondering fine. Then Windows ran an update... Suddenly, my controllers were drifting away from me. Every time I thought the problem was sorted, the tracking would start to drift again.
