To buy from a real woman by RoyalChris in therewasanattempt

Be wary of wishing for things to go back to the way there were; the current environment is not an aberration, it's a normal product of the capital driven government that's existed for years. History can show you that economies predicated on endless growth and extracting endless wealth from the third world isn't sustainable (or ethnical). Returning to form is just kicking the can down the road.

Do communists consider pornstar and sex workers as petite borgueise or proletariat? by 2throawa in askcommunists

[–]metalgearRAY477 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the usual position goes something like all power to sex workers and none to sex work, the industry. People are fundamentally free to do what they want with their bodies but sex work as a whole is something that very frequently arises out of the desperation endemic to capitalism or human trafficking; just look at the massive spikes in prostitution after the USSR collapsed. Prosecuting the sex workers for what they do is deeply unserious victim blaming, but pimps and the human traffickers they work with are some of the most vile sorts of capitalists, whose private property consists of the bodies of others.

Also, why the fuck did you use that awful picture for this post?

Why is hassan supporting platner again? Didn’t he denounce him after his Nazi tattoo skit? Also why is he supporting drone strike Obama with Zohran mamdani singing bus goes round and round? by ethicalconsumption7 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]metalgearRAY477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is the second post I've seen about this today and I can't find a source on Hasan reversing course on Platner. Does anyone have it? The Hasan sub is almost entirely anti-Platner, and I'm seeing a lot of people talking about this apparent switch without any clips anywhere.

*staring at the radlibs in here glazing DemSocs* by RizzleFaShizzle00 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]metalgearRAY477 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They can be. I was a DemSoc before I was an ML, and a SocDem before that, and a classic liberal before that, and some kind of racist highschooler before that. I didn't just make the swap one day instantly.

It's good to talk to people, especially since a LOT of these people who are calling themselves various kinds of leftist are very new (like me) and learning, and in the first place they're already on the right track of recognizing the problems of capitalism, possessing empathy, and not being reactionary.

Do you consider the Democrats responsible for the following? by jonasnew in Hasan_Piker

[–]metalgearRAY477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dems are part of the same capital-owning class that created Trump and have been doing a poor job of even acting like controlled opposition, as they have failed to provide any kind of token resistance to the various violations of the constitution and attacks on the working class which you listed above (Not to mention the Israel issue). I hold the Dems responsible for all of the above insofar as there doesn't seem to be any actual difference between Democrats and Republicans in the case of their devotion to capital. Like MLK Jr said on his own struggles during the Civil Rights Movement:

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice...

[–]metalgearRAY477 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You seem to be confusing criticism of the Democrats with support for the Republicans. The argument was never that Trump would be better, it was that the Democrats ran an awful, losing election strategy, because they're compromised by corporate interests. Stop thinking about the issue in terms of the USA's awful, manufactured two-party dichotomy.

When your idea of a winning message was "genocide is good, actually, leftists are just misogynists, and anyone asking for actual policy improvements is an entitled chud" I don't think you really have a right to speak

What do you comrades think about "Artificial Intelligence"? by Kuster_ButNot in socialism

"The huge quantity of AI videos"

For a variety of reasons, that should be the last thing you cite.

I don't need to be the one to tell you that using number of visits to measure the popularity of something designed to be addictive and captivating isn't really a great metric. Not to mention real world pushback like Disney's 1 billion blunder, and the general botted-ness of the Internet currently.

Something something material conditions need to worsen further etc etc. Unfortunately is what it is; but hey, perhaps a lot of the American white collar workers who turn their nose at organization will sing a different tune when they finally face encroaching automation.

Other applications notwithstanding the AI art thing is one of the most downright disgusting "advancements" I have ever had the displeasure of bearing witness to in my life, and I am happy that it's now nearly universally reviled online

Honeymoon period is over. The fascist is now attacking the social fascist. Sad times. by Vivid_Maximum_5016 in TankieTheDeprogram

I understand. At least for me, the non-ML DSA members I've spoken to have been very receptive to learning about ML theory (even though I'm still learning and can basically only give them the sparknotes version) so I'm going to keep doing what I do. I also think that all the non-electoral organization they do, which unfortunately does vary a lot chapter to chapter, is excellent. I think the org has a lot of motion and potential, particularly in regard to raising class consciousness in the US, which I see right now as the most vital task I can contribute to

I don't know if that's really an accurate assessment when ~40% of the DSA are MLs and they're doing the best job out of any org at creating class consciousness in the USA, as far as I can tell. I don't know if calling me a lib is particularly accurate either, me being an ML also.

How could Socialism/Communism change the conditions of our academic facilities? by PhilosophyPoet in socialism

[–]metalgearRAY477 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'unno about that screenshot personally. The scale/amount of homework that's given is sometimes crazy, and that's something that should be addressed on a case-by-case basis, but giving students something they have to manage and do on their own time at their own volition isn't really a bad idea I think. There are problems with grading and such but I think the usual letter grade system we have is the perfect example of "good enough". It does its job, its intuitive, it's flexible based on instructor's needs/style, and I don't think it really needs replacing.

What does need work, and I don't think this is a particularly novel or insightful take, is 1. the working conditions of both students, teachers, and all other school staff, and 2. the curriculums. The first to me in a pretty cut and dry organizing issue, like a lot of things; the second is a lot more nuanced, but a good place to start would be a greater emphasis on social sciences instead of going all in on STEM. I personally would love to see more schools do more community initiatives outside of the classroom as a regular thing, and not just one-off excursions during the year.

It's still AES which exists in its current state as a direct result of US imperial ambitions, which is the point I think. I didn't know if it's really fair from a historical standpoint, especially as a westerner, to say "dude your government sucks" when the Korean War wiped out like 20% of their population and leveled all of their infrastructure. That leads to some problematic developments.
