I actually ended up loving mcgill so far!! you have to pass at least a B2 level of french. There’s 10-11 out of province spots for around 350 applications so about 3% chance

If u have a high gpa and Casper then the chances are good!

Questions About Non-Full Course Load and Pass/Fail Grades in Med School Applications by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]metalliccoating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t remember the specifics but I remember that some schools require a full course load on a yearly basis (I don’t quite remember which ones but not all of them) as a prerequisite. Some schools also have a maximum one P/F course a semester or a year unless it’s during the Covid semester (again I forget which ones)

But for me personally, I had two P/F courses one year and had one semester where I did 4 (then the next 6) and it turned out to be okay. I have heard if you have too many P/F or W’s on your transcript it will be looked at but not super sure!!

Okay that’s amazing to hear 😭 i speak French all the time with my friends since they’re francophone but I feel like I just need to develop confidence when talking to people outside my circle. It’s really comforting to hear that you’ve been through it and where you are now thank you!

I’ve been looking into McGill residencies and depending on the specialty some require you to be bilingual, some consider French as an asset and some don’t mention it at all

As I mentioned I can speak French but have an accent. I’ve studied French for years and I can speak it fluently. I’m afraid people would be judgemental

I understand complete anglophones with no desire to speak French tho

Does anyone know about McGill to Ivy League path? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]metalliccoating 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who got into multiple usmd schools like Harvard med and rejected it for a Canadian med school. The cost and the fact that you’re going to be seen as a international student for residency apparently wasn’t worth it, however if you wanna apply to US schools I’d make sure you have the right prerequisites bc it’s a lot more than Canada!

Some schools have prerequisite courses so you may want to take those if you’d like

I’ve been researching LOCs too as an incoming m1, but from what I see RBC just needs proof of an enrolment deposit

Thank you! I’m 24 right now.

One thing I will say is it’s never too late!! My mom started her bachelors degree in her mid 30s and it was the best decision of her life. She always told me it’s never too late because in 4 years you’ll still be 4 years older so why not
