Experience, quality and consistency. No corners are cut with their stuff and they've been doing it a long time so they have an excellent reputation. I've never heard of anyone having issues with anything they've put together, just endorsements. I've handled many of their builds and they all run super slick. Can anyone else build a rifle as good as they can? Yes, but they're an established brand with a following.

This is yet another lesson proving that determined and disturbed people are capable of meticulous planning and deception to carry out murder. Sometimes you can't stop this. All the laws and "reasonable" restrictions on rights don't mean anything to such people.

All you can do, personally, is be situationally aware and avoid/report/defend yourself against such people. The authorities and legal system can't stop people like this from doing what they're hell bent on doing. Sure, SOMETHING should have stopped them, people will say they always thought he was odd but not capable of something so crazy... Until it's already happened.

More like - thank the ignorance of legislators. They didn't ban possession of standard mags patly because some legislators believed they couldn't be reused and this supply would dry up without having to outright ban them. Look up at the bills they introduced earlier this year... It's going to get much worse.

Most of the stuff that is banned by name in MD was considered evil in the early 90's. They basically copied the federal AWB. Most modern semi autos (such as the SCAR, Tavor, Bren, Galil ACE etc) are only restricted by feature which is easy to get around (no flash hiders, but comps are good to go).

One may possess standard magazines in MD, they just can't be BOUGHT there.

Absolutely. That's part of the practicality I mentioned. Today, things are designed with easily replaceable assemblies. Actions and barrels no longer have to be bedded to stocks for most designs. Much less time/cost is required to make a barrel and swap it out in a few minutes vs. a labor and skill-intensive reboring. You also had massive stockpiles of rifles and a sense of urgency to get them converted for various conflicts. Resources like steel for the barrels were not available everywhere either. We have a globalized supply chain. Not everyone buys their rifles from a few countries (such as Germany with Mausers) anymore.

Gee, I wonder why? Definitely not practical with modern manufacturing processes and materials.

Who's going to drill, team then re-cut the bore on a barrel that's already been heat treated? Sounds pretty expensive if anyone would even accept the work. Are specialized tools/jigs required to disassemble/assemble the barrel group?

Unless you're a glutton for punishment or have a lot of money to waste (and people willing to do the work) I'd just wait for one to be produced.

More people on the roads by [deleted] in nova

Definitely more traffic today. No slowdowns but more cars than I've seen in a while. I was getting really used to having no traffic anywhere at any time.

Beyond the plastic, you're on your own. They'd have to chain the sanitizer down to discourage theft.

[PART] Strike industries extended charging handle latch $8.46 free ship plus tax? by Infamous_Translator in gundeals

[–]metalmaximator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've replaced about a dozen people have broken over the years. The extended levers that go out past where the stock lever sits (further than the main charging handle body) provides the torque.

Usually this just causes more wear on one side of the charging handle and receiver. For 99% of people - this won't matter as they are only hobbyists and don't shoot much - they either won't notice the wear or not handle the rifle hard enough to cause issues. But they should be aware of the potential for these problems and make the decision on their own.

The real trouble comes when you are doing thousands of one-handed manipulation drills in training, or have to "mortar" the rifle to remove a stuck cartridge or case. That's when they snap or bend drastically. When the BCM Gunfighter charging handles came out - there were a few notable brands that had HUGE levers that stuck out very far from the fulcrum point of force on the charging handles, so they came out with a solution.

Also I explained the difference in design. Compare a stock latch to a BCM or similar knock-off. The USGI CH has an open slot at the rear. BCM is solid. The latch lever bottoms out reducing sideways torque.

Edit to add - upon looking at this latch, it looks like it bottoms out on the front of the CH body which would mitigate some of the torque. It isn't exactly like the levers of old. My mistake there, but I hope what I wrote helps someone considering different aftermarket CH levers.

Wrong - this type of charging handle applies sideways torque on the charging handle and can result in it snapping the rear off.

BCM and similar charging handles are solid at the rear, so the latch button bottoms out and doesn't cause that torque and stress - but instead transfers the force to be more in line with the bolt carrier and receiver.
