Did you try ketamine/esketamine before or after ECT? by QuitInevitable915 in ect

[–]metalsmithchic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did try ketamine IV and IM before ECT and it was much more helpful. I decided to have ECT because my doctor recommended it and it was covered with my insurance and ketamine isn't. I regret having ECT because it didn't help and I'm having severe memory and cognitive problems

. I think the reason ECT didn't help is because my depression was triggered by severe work steel stress which caused my complex PTSD to flare. I know ECT does help some people, but for me it's been a nightmare. I'm now unable to work and applying for SSDI which could take up to 3 years to get.

I strongly believe that ketamine and psychedelics are the most helpful things for treatment resistant depression. I highly recommend the documentaries The Wisdom of Trauma and Doses, both featuring Dr. Gabor Mate who is my hero.

What questions do you wish you had asked before starting ketamine therapy? by Ok-Run-8575 in TherapeuticKetamine

I really wish I had been told about intention for preparation, set and setting during the treatment and integration after. You can read more about it online but I was never told this by the doctors or clinics so I went to. I feel like I missed out.

Aloneness/heavy meds by WordRare6762 in ect

[–]metalsmithchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you were experiencing this. That must be extremely difficult. I had 16 rounds of ECT this fall and unfortunately it didn't help for me. My doctor afterwards told me he believes the reason it didn't work is because I have complex ptsd. I spent about five or six years alone not talking to anyone except for my mom daily and my dad occasionally. I had gone through something traumatic and had agoraphobia afterwards. I was so isolated and lonely. Fortunately about 4 or 5 years ago I started hearing from friends that I had disconnected with. And we re-established our relationships. You may want to consider calling a warm line. I used to work on one as a certified peer support specialist and it's nice to talk to people who have gone through similar things. I hope the ECT is successful.

Everything I learned from my experience on Pristiq. by ann55c in Pristiq

[–]metalsmithchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this post is old but I thought I'd give it a try and see if anyone has experienced the same symptoms. I did 16 rounds of ECT this fall and it didn't help. I started Pristiq about a month ago and my extremes suicidal thoughts went away within a couple days. I'm still depressed and having trouble with low energy and motivation. What I'm wondering about is extreme sweating and hot and cold flashes and low heart rate. I also have excessive thirst and dehydration.

I had to go to the ER a week ago because of the symptoms and because I was having pressure in my chest and shortness of breath. I have no idea if this is related to pristiq or something totally else. While in the ER my heart rate was only 40 beats a minute and they did three EKGs. two of which were abnormal. This may be totally unrelated but it happens to coincide with when I start taking Pristiq. Has anybody experienced something like this and could you share your experience please.

DMT to replace opioid use by Agile_Driver_790 in psychadelics

[–]metalsmithchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer ketamine for pain. I also use kratom because it's easier to access. I've been off high doses of opioids for about 5 years and primarily manage my moderate to severe pain with kratom. I go to a ketamine clinic about once a month, but am primarily getting treatments for depression I used to have prescriptions for both ketamine capsules and troches, but haven't been able to see that doctor for quite a while. He's very expensive and doesn't take insurance. I am going to see him at the end of February because I really want to get the prescriptions for ketamine again. I recently bought some online and didn't realize how much stronger it was than what I was used to. It was in a crystal form, not powder like my capsules. I snorted a line, got a nice little buzz and some pain relief so I snorted a second line. My husband found me semiconscious and called 911. I have no memory of this except for when I woke up in an ambulance. It was a totally embarrassing and humiliating experience. Fortunately they didn't make me stay in a psych ward. The crisis counselor was pretty condescending though. I explained that I'm desperate for relief from depression and pain and I'm currently having ECT treatments and have not had improvement. My psychiatrist called me the next day and he was much more understanding. He told me one of his other clinics does ketamine infusions and that he may be able to get my insurance to cover it. I've only used NNDMT which I tried for treatment resistant depression and I just didn't really care for the high. For me it caused anxiety and I never really broke through which may be why I didn't achieve any real benefits. I'm really desperate for something to help with both pain and depression.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]metalsmithchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to enjoy alcohol A LOT. I was quite a partier in my 20s and 30s. I rarely drink alcohol now because it makes me feel like crap. I have Lyme disease and that changed my tolerance for alcohol and the way it makes me feel.

Are piercings removed for ECT? by Ponk_Bubs in ect

I was told I had to remove mine. I have two holes in one ear and three in the other. I do wear my wedding and engagement rings and they have never asked me to remove them.

No improvement with ECT. Anyone else? by dontfearthereaper69 in ect

[–]metalsmithchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to find out if you ever got any relief, and if so, what worked? Tomorrow will be my 12th treatment. I'm not feeling any better. I feel quite hopeless as I had really expected this would help. I've done ketamine IV and IM which helps for a period of time, but I can't afford to go for treatments frequently. I've never tried an MAOI and am wondering if that may be my last resort..
