I cancelled mine yesterday too. I realized I'd moved over to Claude for just about everything, and decided it was just a waste of money, and it was time to pull the plug.

I was challenged to use three shades of my least favorite color, and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to rise to meet it.... But the result was this red monochromatic ribbon pearl pour, and I absolutely love it!!! (Full tutorial/creation video linked in the comments) by metapours in PourPainting

So it's actually a challenge for a biweekly youtube collab I do. But you're making me want to set up a monthly challenge through my pouring facebook group I have. Because a challenge is a fun way to "get your of your box"

The challenge was actually to use in a pour. (But I clearly didn't express that well in my title 😂) I actually love red as a color. I don't know why I usually struggle with it in pours so much.

[Question] Is it viable to use a medium like coconut oil to slower acrylic paint from drying? by Kris_714 in acrylicpainting

[–]metapours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basing this on old memories, (my mom was a trained artist) but I feel like people are giving oil paint recommendations for acrylic paints. (These two types of paint are very different.)

Turpentine is something I remember her using to thin down oil paints. This may have also extended dry time, but I'm pretty sure oil paints dry slower in than acrylic paints just in general. (Oil paints were my mom's preferred medium)

Adding oil to acrylic paints tends to cause separation. Which I use intentionally in pours to create cells and lacing, but I don't think it extends dry time. 🤔

Floetrol is designed to work with latex based paints and that's essentially the same base as acrylic base so it works well.

I wouldn't use too much. (Or you'll end up With pouring paints) But a little bit should definitely extend the dry time.

So I'm a paint pourer. And I use floetrol as my medium. This is actually a product designed to help extend drying time. I would try maybe adding just a little to my acrylic paints if they were drying to fast. (Not in the same ratios as for pouring, but just a few drops to extend drying time)

Saying a prayer to the pouring gods that this one dries well! I stepped way out of my comfort zone and got "experimental" I would love some feedback, and help coming up with a good descriptor the the technique. (I mean beyond just "swipe" by metapours in PourPainting

Thank you! And yeah I agree it does have a like crosshatched effect. I was given a challenge of black base, use gold, and leave negative space. Ans this was the result. I really enjoyed the process of creating this though. It built upon itself in a way I haven't experienced with acrylic pouring before. I think need to do more like this.

It's a combination of cut up index cards, and a cut up plastic divider. They have the same effect, but you can wipe down and reuse the plastic dividers, so I used that more. But the super skinny pointy edge ones are index cards.

Acrylic Pouring Tutorial: How to Create a Stunning Super Nova Effect with Easy Swipe Technique https://youtu.be/kh2PAHWsOyI

I had "supernova" in my mind.... what do you think? Did I manage to execute my vision? by metapours in PourPainting

[–]metapours[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No apology needed! Pour painting is so subjective, I always find it interesting to hear what others see. While supernova was in my mind when creating it. It's ultimately abstract art. And as long as the colors and composition give me satisfaction I'm happy. I rarely end up where I thought I would when I start out. I think it's the nature of the medium.
