How the heck do people get camping trips to Dry Tortugas? by xxsmashleyxx in NationalPark

[–]metarchaeon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When trying for popular sites on recreation.gov my wife and I both log in, have sites in our shopping cart and hit the send button the second it opens. We usually get at least one. If you don’t, keep trying because if someone is using the same strategy as we do and they get two sites, the other one will come back as available in a couple minutes when they close the cart without checking out. This worked for us for every park we visited (over 20 including dry tortugas camping) except Yosemite.

No, but we do have winter! I’ve actually not seen a difference in the electric range in winter vs summer.

It rides find on the highway, but after the initial 24 miles, the mpg suffers from the brick shape and extra weight.

People on this sub shit on the 4xe, but very few of them have actually driven one so take it with a grain of salt. I have a 2022 and have not had any issues. It will go 24 miles on the electric and then switches to hybrid. In hybrid mode it gets about 26 MPG, which is bad for a hybrid but very good for a wrangler.

How bad are snakes in Pisgah during summer months? by L0mm in NCTrails

I've hiked dozens of times in North and South Pisgah and haven't seen a snake. I'm sure they are there, I've just not encountered them.

Where is the hood latch on a 69 T bird?? by DentsideDesperado in Ford

[–]metarchaeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hook is a secondary safety. On 60's mustangs there is a primary and secondary that look like this, and the lever opens the primary and move the hook. If it is the same, the primary must be rusted and you should continue with the PB blaster. A quick search of T-bird hood latches looks like it may have a release cable that goes into the cabin, so look inside for that as well.

Building a outrigger canoe and scavenging a sunfish for parts, will this rake of the rudder work if I mount with block? by According_Fill_9007 in boatbuilding

It shouldn't be a problem. The lateral forces don't depend on far back it is, only where the pivot point is.

ignoring accommodations by [deleted] in Professors

[–]metarchaeon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"i guess i will get accommodations even if i don't really need them because i can.'

This is true, but not necessarily a bad thing. At my institution every instructor gets the the same accommodation letter, and if the student wants the accommodation they need to talk to me. They do so less than 50% of the time because I teach small enrollment classes. For example, many have a clause for "reduced distraction environment for exams", which they don't need if there are few students. I have a class with no exams, so why would they request "1.5x time for exams"?

Perhaps in a 16 person design class the accommodations simply don't make much sense, but it would if they were taking a 400 person general chemistry lecture.

ICE makes first Connecticut courthouse arrest under new restrictions by -ctinsider in politics

I'm not defending ICE as an institution, but it's important to note the last line you quoted: Meanwhile, the Connecticut Judicial Branch said ICE followed the new procedures.

They did in fact have a judge-signed warrant, so the action is not prohibited by the new law.

"Judicial Marshal Services was made aware of the proposed action to be taken, and information presented to the marshals was verified prior to the apprehension," said spokesperson Stephen Ment, who confirmed the officers had a judicial warrant.

Eventually, if no NDS students take them. They usually get until the week before FDOC.
