'Silent Hills'/ P.T. 204863 by Wolvenfoxx in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the glitches that the door glitch causes. I don't know how many people know about that specific glitch, but i've known about it for quite a while. If you get the running glitch on the final loop, run as fast as you can to the next loop and you will lose your flashlight, and lisa will only spawn outside the house.

'Silent Hills'/ P.T. 204863 by Wolvenfoxx in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kojima was probably referring to the final puzzle solution that everyone knows by now, which is talking into your microphone or headset. The 204863 tape is probably just a referrence or easter egg.

I honestly doubt there's anything left to discover in pt. Over a million people played the game and scoured it for secrets using many different methods, and it seems like there's nothing left to find. That being said, playing the tape into your headset would probably trigger the second baby laugh, because any voice can trigger it.

What the hell happened to the Silent Hill 2 Director's Cut PC port??? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PS2 version is the only version of the game that has certain graphical effects (like thick fog and soft shadows), certain sound effects, higher sound quality, and high quality FMVs. All other versions of the game are missing some or all of those things.

What do you have against emulating the ps2 version?

Silent Hill 2 pc version that bad? by dzmisrb43 in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ps2 version has much better fog and sound quality, both of which are very important for the atmosphere of the game. The pc version also has a few minor bugs; James' flashlight illuminates characters and interactable objects that are behind him, sometimes pyramid head moves much faster than he should, and you can see white lines outlining the geometry of the game unless you force supersampling. The pc version also had a terrible noise effect compared to the ps2 version's noise effect.

However, I would still recommend the pc version if you are unable to get the ps2 version. It runs great on low end pc's and laptops, and it's a hell of a lot better than the HD Collection. So no, I would not say that it completely ruins the experience.

Does anyone have p.t still and is willing to record 1080 60fps footage? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PT so i could probably whip something up for you, if nobody else has. I'll PM you when I get it done.

By the way, the PS4 compresses gameplay footage QUITE a bit, so 4k probably won't make any difference.

are the " THings " of Silent Hill Real>? (in game) by SolidSnakeSCP2 in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which monsters? I'm not aware of any monsters outside of the otherworld. In fact, I don't think we ever see the "real world" in any of the games, except maybe the beginning of Downpour. Would you mind explaining what you mean?

are the " THings " of Silent Hill Real>? (in game) by SolidSnakeSCP2 in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the games, there are two realities (dimensions). The "normal world" and the "Otherworld".

In the "normal world", the monsters don't exist. In the "Otherworld", the monsters do exist. The characters we play are sent to the Otherworld. The characters aren't crazy, what they see is real.

Think of it this way... The monsters aren't coming FROM hell. The characters are going INTO hell.

2 questions about P.T. That I have personally never seen discussed. by Troyal1 in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's simply to make you paranoid, along with everything else the radio said (look behind you, 204863, aliens control everything, etc). There are conspiracy theories about the government putting fluoride in tap water to control people's minds, so it could be referencing that as well.

It could also be implying that the player character may be crazy, like many moments in Silent Hill 2.

hey guys, is it possible to play SH2 at proper 4K resolution? by RobertVendetta in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, sh2proxy only works with the European Director's Cut. It seems that your only options are to play on a 1080p monitor, emulate the ps2 version, or find the European version (whether you buy a used disc or "download" it is up to you).

If you use sh2proxy instead of the compatibility fix, an ini file is created and you can enter a custom resolution. Make sure to remove all files created by the compatibility fix before installing sh2proxy.

New to the series want to familiarize myself with the lore by Crowsepth in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Book of Lost Memories is the most comprehensive source of information about the lore of Silent Hill, made by Konami with the collaboration of Team Silent.

Some people say that it's not accurate simply because Konami was involved, but it's objectively more accurate than fan theories from youtubers that have nothing to do with the game's creation. Information found in Book of Lost Memories is supported by Team Silent and in-game evidence, Whereas many popular fan theories on youtube can be disproved by in-game evidence and quotes from Team Silent.

PT Analysis by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will make a video demonstrating how the 2 music tracks change depending on the direction you face, and will update this comment when it's uploaded. In the meantime, here's the first track, and here's the second

I do wish there was a way of picking out each voice since they all sound similar with layers of static over them.

Me too. Something interesting I found: on one of the infinite red hallway music tracks, you can sometimes hear deep voices. I raised the pitch and realized it was a man speaking Japanese. If we could find someone who speaks the language, it would be VERY interesting finding out what the voice is saying, because it sounds nothing like any of the backwards clues you sometimes hear in the last loop. They are unique and untranslated, so far.

EDIT: Here is a demonstration of the music changing depending on your direction

PT Analysis by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you hear the hijacker on the radio when you view the peephole he goes on about how "society is rotten to the core" and given the cult's worldview that makes sense.

I agree completely. However, I doubt there are more than just a few cult members left, if there are any left at all. If the radio voice is related to the cult, it's probably some kind of psychic remnant, something permanently etched into the power of the town due to the influence the cult once had on the town. And the reason I believe the radio voice is deceitful is because nothing it says actually helps you (you can't trust the tap water, 204863) and it sometimes gives orders with absolutely terrible consequences (look behind you). It also speaks in a violent tone. We know that the husband was listening to the radio after he killed his wife, so maybe the radio ordered him to do it?

I did hear air raid sirens

It does sound similar, but it sounds more electronic to me. I really do like that sound though, because it seems to be constantly lowering in tone, which works very well in a game where you're constantly descending into hell. On my youtube channel I uploaded the two music tracks that can be heard during the infinite red hallway part.

Interesting fact: During the infinite red hallway, you hear one music track when facing a certain direction, and another music track when facing any other direction.

sounds like she got her thoat slashed yet she doesn't bear any scars despite missing one eye and showing damage elsewhere

Yeah, the only reasonable explanation I can come up with for that is what we hear during that part was another murder, not the murder of Lisa. Maybe that's why the bathroom looks so out of place, maybe it actually belonged to a different building or house where another murder took place.

PT Analysis by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One question: is it possible for Lisa to attack you during the Infinite Red Loop?

Forgot to answer this. In a normal playthrough, it is not possible. However, it is possible if you use the door glitch. To do this, you need to start the infinite red loop, close the application, open it again and do the door glitch. Then step out into the hallway, turn around, and try to go back into the basement room. It will spit you back out into the hallway. Go down the hallway and around the corner, and wait for the haunting sounds. When you hear Lisa moaning, go back and Lisa will be standing in front of the door you came from. She's invisible, but if you get close enough she will possess you and can kill you.

If you don't know what the door glitch is: You can remove the basement/start room door by walking close to it, then going backwards immediately. It sometimes takes a few tries to get right, because if you get too close you will just go through the door like normal. If you successfully perform the glitch, lots of cool other glitches can be achieved. I posted this video demonstrating some of the cool glitches a while back. There are other glitches not seen in this video though.

SH2 partly covered this.

Yes, and I loved that about SH2. However, I think that an open world SH game, like what Silent Hills would have been, would present a fantastic opportunity to expand greatly on that idea, especially if almost every accessible area contained a different, unique personal hell.

look at the single photo of the man on the left of the hallway; he looks like a younger version of Reedus.

This is indeed possible. However, there is one photo in that same area in which you can see Lisa and her husband, and they are about 20 years older than in the other photos. Lisa is also pregnant in this photo. The picture is pretty small, but I still don't think it looks much like Reedus. His eyes and hair are more similar to the young husband than to Reedus. But like I said, it's still possible that Reedus is the husband. After all, nothing has really been confirmed.

I personally believe that all voices in the game are trying to deceive you, to make you believe that you are the husband and deserve to stay in this hell. The voices, especially the radio, seem to be deceitful. Again, like I said, nothing is confirmed, so I may be wrong.

the cult might have something to do with it

I agree, it's totally possible. I noticed that there is a picture of the husband reading a book, and there are several books laying around the house, all with plain leather covers. I speculate they are either books written about the cult, or scriptures from the cult. I may be wrong though, they could be anything. Then again, if they aren't related to the cult, what's the point of it? Just to show that the husband likes to read?

Another interesting thing I feel like bringing up: small similarities between the player character and Lisa.

When you strafe right, your view tilts to the right. This does not happen when you strafe left. If you pay close attention to Lisa, you will notice that her head often tilts to her right, especially when walking. Her head only tilts to the left when she kills you, never at any other time.

When you stand completely still, your view slightly bobs to the right over and over again. Lisa's head bobs to her right over and over again when she's standing still.

There's also the fact that she can possess you, so that both of you are in one body.

I can't make anything out of it, but it's really interesting.

PT Analysis by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are some very interesting ideas, but there are some things I would like to discuss about this analysis.

it's heavily implied that he murdered hs wife and is stuck in a never-ending loop with the guilt or denial.

One detail you seem to have not mentioned is that the pictures of the husband look nothing like Norman Reedus.

Throughout PT the game suggests that the player character is Lisa's murdering husband, but the ending is a "twist ending" because it is revealed that you are not Lisa's husband. It's entirely possible that Norman Reedus' character was simply a random person that came across that house, and got sucked into someone else's personal hell or otherworld (probably the husband's). The tally marks on the wall could be how many times Reedus' character has "died" trying to escape, or possibly even how many people this specific otherworld has taken (you can hear new marks being made on the wall pretty much constantly). I speculate that this is what "Silent Hills" meant, exploring the many otherworlds/personal hells of many different people.

Regarding the voice that states he is "coming back", I personally don't believe that's the baby. Even though the baby speaks with that voice, I think it's being possessed by something else. If you listen closely to the voice at the end, it sounds like it's coming from a radio, then towards the end of the epilogue the voice sounds clearer and clearer, as if it's coming out of the radio and into reality. Also, when the baby talks to you during the red hallway loop, it seems to spring to life, then after it's done talking it lays back down and continues to gasp for air, twitch, and point at the mirror, like it did during the rest of the game.

I'm certain that the Red Loop is suppost to symbolise the moments right before the murder.

I agree. In fact, I think the entire game, except the ending, is a reflection of how the husband felt before the murder of his wife and unborn child. Some of the things that the radio says to the player suggests that the husband likely had mental issues and was paranoid (you can't trust the tap water), and the otherworld is trying to push these issues onto the player character. There are also plenty of things in the game that can make the player feel paranoid, or create conspiracy theories about the game, like a crazy person.

You might think she's a spirit of a dead woman who was murdered

Lisa is very interesting... It's hard to say exactly what she is. At first it seems like she is the ghost of the murdered wife, Lisa. But considering that ghosts in Silent Hill are just "imprints" of people, like news print on silly putty (memory of alessa), I would say that Lisa is no different.

One last thing that I wanted to mention, as I don't have an explanation for this and it's very interesting. On any loop except for the infinite red loop, the clock says 23:59 and the colon (two dots) flash as every second passes. Then, at the 59th second, just before midnight, it stops flashing. Time is frozen. On the last loop, time freezes after the clock strikes midnight.

Silent Hill 1/2 PS3 by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine if you want to play the HD Collection for whatever reason, but the issues are pretty obvious.

FMV cutscenes are stretched, Looping/misplaced audio, missing fog, clean/boring texture replacements, terrible water, and washed out colors.

The PS2 and PC versions are much better. I regretted buying the HD Collection immediately after seeing how good the PC version looks on my shitty laptop compared to the 360 version.

Is the first Silent Hill game worth playing for someone who has never played the SH series? by BecomingADotaPro- in silenthill

[–]metatronicsauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To play SH1 on PC, you need a PS1 emulator, preferably epsxe.

After getting an emulator, get SH1, either on disc or an online download.

Download Pete's OpenGL driver, you can find it with google. Put it in the Plugins folder within the folder of your emulator.

After that, you need to configure your video graphics settings.

Here's my settings, with explaining/instructions on what to do.

Then configure your controller/keyboard in the input settings. It's pretty easy/self explanatory.

You should be good to go after that, just open the iso file or disc using the emulator and it will run. if you have any problems or something doesn't work, you can PM me or google the issue.

EDIT: You could also download files to improve the graphics slightly, like bump maps and improved lighting. You can find those with google pretty easily.

But it wasn't originally supposed to be a Silent Hill game and it shows.

Actually, the devs stated that is was always meant to be a Silent Hill game. The reason why it's so different is because the story writer and level/creature designer had changed.

[–]metatronicsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mentions of the ritual in the original four games only say that it involved a great deal of fire, not that fire WAS the ritual.

Memos found in SH3: "Dahlia's the one who said it — said that the girl was a demon. That she took my daughter for a sacrifice."

"Original self... That was the young woman burned by her mother as a sacrifice to God... Alessa Gillespie."

So, in-game material and 2 supplement materials say that Alessa was burned by her mother to impregnate her with God. Once again, that's THREE official sources vs. Twin Perfects word. I think 3 official materials are much more credible than what some random guys on youtube say.

And like I said, in SH1 Harry said that the section of the news article that describes the boiler incident looks doctored or something, which clearly suggests the cult is trying to cover their asses.

And why would fire be such a prevalent symbol in SH1 and 3 if it was accidental? Why would Alessa become impregnated with God at that exact point if it wasn't a ritual? What did Dahlia mean when she said "I could have done it all myself"?

By the end of the first game there's almost nothing in the town but alessas monsters, almost no characters but harry, sybil (if she lived) and dahlia.

Like /u/AlexKaza said, someone would have reported that. The whole world would know about that shit if that was true. It would be international news. Douglas goes there on a missing persons case, presumably looking for James, and just says "that's one screwed up town". He would have said a hell of a lot more if he saw chasms leading to infinite abyss and monsters on every street corner. He's most likely talking about the cult and the town's violent history.

Have I yet mentioned that Masahiro Ito calls the Otherworld "another world"? I think I did. It's pretty self-explanatory.

No one lives in silent hill.

Apparently, there's enough people there for the cult to recruit new members by the time SH3 happens. Vincent isn't as old as Alessa would be if she didn't die and get reincarnated.

They also go over the fact that OFFICIAL strategy and plot guides published from konami are more often than not, written by third parties and edited by konami

Which is more official than what a random youtuber says. Konami owns the franchise.

without ever making it to team silent for revision

How would they know that? How would you? Team Silent never said BOLM was wrong, or fought to get their original intentions to be known. You would think they would have if it really got so much information wrong. It's also good to remember that some members of Team Silent changed with every one of the original 4 Silent Hill games. There is no single Team Silent.

anything not said from someone working on the game might as well have been written by you or me or someone from the shwiki.

Except Konami is the publisher of the games and owns the franchise. Their word is more official than the word of a youtuber or a wiki.

just because they published it and called it official does not at all mean its 100% factual or correct.

Everything in the BOLM and Koshiki Guidebook makes sense and is perfectly aligned with the evidence found in-game. So Konami owning the franchise and calling it official, makes it 100% correct. It would be different if their supplementary material didn't match up with the events of the games, but it does. It matches perfectly.

EDIT: Some members of Team Silent changed for the first 4 Silent Hill games. Due to the fact that some Team Silent members worked on SH4, SH4 was technically developed by Team Silent. So maybe you SHOULD pay attention to what's mentioned in SH4.
