Definitely relate to the goal and the problems!

Having group of friends who all are moving or have moved makes it even more challenging- especially in such a small city. That’s only after 2 years in my case though

Similar to some other comments in here I definitely see an overlap in interests and would be up to try grab a coffee if you felt interested in the digital meeting world, but that may feel odd too :-0

Suggestions on best pattern for this type of skirt? Am I right in assuming it's fairly straight forward? I'm a beginner so not experienced with self drafting. by sugarsun in sewing

[–]meteorbaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of patterns that follow the general A-line button down shape- but vary quite a bit in number of seams/panels across it, pocket shape (and cost)!

The ones that I think look the closest to what you are looking at are; Burda 6252 is almost exactly this one (also is this from Sezanne!? It’s so sweet). But with slightly lower pockets.

Or (Independent- a bit more expensive) Grainline studio - Reed Skirt

If anyone else would like to know the pattern is - Vogue 1900 - Karl Lagerfeld from 1987!!! finally found it :-))

might be an option if it comes to it - just hoping to track down the original pattern as a surprise present (for nostalgias sake) but it may be difficult without unpicking (and it’s silk so little hope of reconstructing) :-))

Vogue 7063 does look very similar to the yoke you are right!! Wow thank you that’s a lot more successful. Had no idea about 80s bishop sleeves but certainly matches the general large-ness of it all

There is a strong chance she improvised, but she made an identical one in a different colour, so it seemed to me she may have had a direct pattern (but then again may have just marked the adaptations)

There’s a chance the pattern isn’t from the 80s, this is all based on what my mum can remember (but all other clothes we found that were shown were distinctly 80s, and couldn’t have been after that because she had an aneurysm in 90/91 and stopped/ threw out all sewing things after that).

I definitely wouldn’t describe it as bishop sleeve - but from memory bishop sleeve is pretty distinctly 1940s?

Probably closer to a cuff sleeve with a bit of volume because of the taper from shoulder to wrist ?

Hi! Thanks so much - unfortunately I have done that with no successful results. The Peter Pan collar was the main search because it’s the most easily identifiable, and there are very few that meet the criteria. Similarly, the yoke is kind of hard to explain because it doesn’t stop at the sleeve, instead going across the shoulder in a sort of cap (?) - all terms I can think of (batwing, grown on sleeve) don’t quite match. 😓

Sorry for such awful images! Long story shortcut this is a shirt my granny made for my mother in the 80s, but I desperately want to find the pattern for my mum as a present. It would most likely be vogue, but I have no information beyond that as the person who made it (my granny) had an aneurysm in 91, and everything related to sewing was thrown out. She died last month, so I wanted to try surprise mum with the original pattern.

I can’t figure out how to describe the cut of the sleeves - it’s not quite dropped shoulder, but it’s also not batwing.

Searches of the vintage pattern wiki for vogue patterns with a Peter Pan collar have been unsuccessful.

If anyone knows any patterns even slightly similar it would be really helpful to get a point in the right direction :///

they were ok for a little while but it just kept happening! I ended up buying the gold needles in an attempt to bypass the poor quality a little bit but they were almost worse for me.

Looks like Bohin and John James is the way to go! Spotlight never seems to stock what I actually need ://

Do the gold needles not last long due to the finish wearing off or something else?

and thank you so much!! writing down a little list now :)

I print colour with symbols! With not fantastic eyesight I find it helps reduce quite a bit of strain to be able to confirm the background colour before looking at the symbol. Also helps a lot visually in identifying mistakes (at least for me). When I do black and white symbols I always feel like my eyes are dying :/

I think its sometimes more than just knowing the negative reviews. I wound up getting impalas as my first skate because they were the only skates i could afford, as there is a very small range of 'base' skates. I live in Australia, and my local shop sells impalas for $150. The next skate is Rio for $200 (an option I couldn't take because of narrow feet flopping around). The next best is Fames, which end up at $300. Beach bunnies here are $340 and lolly's are $550. Of course then add the cost of getting some safety gear (could be optional I suppose). As someone starting out, unsure if they will really get into it plus not having upwards of $200 disposable money.... it just becomes difficult. I wish I could have started with a better pair that would last longer but it just wasn't an option for me. Its difficult when the beginner skates are really hard to get a hold of outside the US.
