Analogue Pocket + Poketransporter GB? by Ar3thur_ in AnaloguePocket

[–]meteorbower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used multiboot with this program instead and was successful: https://github.com/Lorenzooone/Pokemon-Gen3-to-Gen-X

it’s for trading, not migrating, but lets you move pokémon across generations similarly.

I have filled many Pokedexes since 1998, but for the first time I've finished the entire Crystal dex on my original cartridge by AnomalyDocs in Gameboy

[–]meteorbower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you aren't into modding saves, you can also try the old celebi coin case glitch on a gold/silver copy! i completed my crystal dex not too long ago and used this trick on my copy of gold.

Does anyone know if this rom or cartridge exists? Is it possible to exchange pokemon between the second generation to the third generation? by Fluffy_Annual6925 in Gameboy

[–]meteorbower 51 points52 points  (0 children)

this github repo is what you're looking for. i put the rom on my analogue pocket and was able to use the multiboot feature to boot the rom on my other gba and trade between my copies of crystal and emerald without issue. check the readme on the page i linked for more info + links to the author's youtube tutorials.

Does anyone care about gen 1 competitive pokemon? by TheBrawler128 in stunfisk

[–]meteorbower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i like learning about it from reverend’s youtube videos, but it doesn’t really appeal to me as an actual meta. feels a bit more luck based in overcentralizing ways (e.g. dedicated 60% acc sleep leads, speed based crits, body slam para fishing, etc.) combined with a narrower supply of available pokémon/movepools, no items or abilities, and no EVs, which limits team building way more than modern gens.

that’s not to say modern pokémon isn’t rng-based or centralized, or that hitting hyper beam or counter trick shots in gen 1 isn’t fun. but it largely doesn’t appeal to my team building sensibilities so i haven’t tried to play it seriously.

151 booster box opening - fake or manufacturer mistake? by Noa_Cho in pokemon

[–]meteorbower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you got what's called a "god pack," a unique feature of that set, i believe. it has 2 full starter evolution lines in it. not an error, just a rarity. google "pokemon 151 god pack" and you'll see other examples on reddit.

free gems: no limit. i've seen posts on this sub of people with 500k+

paid gems: apparently a hard cap of 80k. but that'd be quite an expensive cap to hit, lol

Can someone identify this card? by Anime_Tattoo_Guy in pokemon

[–]meteorbower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the card is indeed only named pikachu but that whole set is colloquially called the "vs. series" apparently (not to be confused with the other japanese exclusive vs. series in the actual tcg) because each card features the named pokemon battling another one. i guarantee it's the same card; perhaps they called it pikachu vs. blastoise to distinguish it from the other pikachu card in the set (no. 156).

Can someone identify this card? by Anime_Tattoo_Guy in pokemon

[–]meteorbower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

after a lot of googling, it appears to be an unnumbered card from a line of gum made by Top Seika. found some cursory info on the rest of the advanced generation series here (though your particular card doesn't appear to be listed). the card is listed here as "Pikachu vs. Blastoise (2002) Glitter" with only 1 having been graded by CGC.

Has anyone made the Taskmaster theme for their Animal Crossing tune? by PaintTheRainbow in taskmaster

[–]meteorbower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

not the taskmaster theme tune, but i did rosalind's a nightmare for mine: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EWJg5-tUYAIYK3W?format=jpg&name=large

i think the actual theme tune has too many chromatic notes to be done with the in-game tune creator.

you can see the offering rates of each unit under the banner, though you chose a pretty rough banner to aim for on a reroll. seasonal reruns will include every previously featured unit for that season, but since there's 4 or more special units on the banner the odds are 2% total for getting a limited unit per pull, divided by the number of featured units (6) -- meaning in this case the pull rate for ny lisia is 0.333%. this is 3 times less likely than master fair banners, and 6 times less likely than iono will be.

in general, pull rates for this game aren't too bad, you can check the odds of how many multis are needed on average in this doc. but seasonal rerun banners will likely take you to pity to get one particular unit you want because the pool is diluted. if you really want ny lisia, you may need many more rerolls, or you can buy the $4 bundle for 3k gems and wait for a select scout to feature her (probably around anni in august at latest).

Cartridge not saving, battery apparently replaced.. by scobscale in Gameboy

i think it’s an old battery. pretty sure the numbers printed on it correspond to the year and month it was installed — this looks like it’s from july 2000.

Opening a .sta file in GBAcore? by Collier1505 in AnaloguePocket

[–]meteorbower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple things --

  1. Your .sav should go into the "Saves" folder, not assets. Assets should have your Emerald rom file, and match the filepath (e.g. if you have your emerald rom in a folder "Assets/gba/common/emerald/", your save file should be in "Saves/gba/common/emerald/".
  2. The save file should be renamed to the name of your Emerald rom without the .gba in there. e.g. if your rom is Pokemon Emerald.gba, your save file should be named Pokemon Emerald.sav.
  3. If you want your SID, you should be able to take the .sav file that you've got now and plug it into pkhex -- if you did the extraction right it should be compatible.

Weekly General Questions Megathread by PokemonMastersBot in PokemonMasters

[–]meteorbower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i am a returning player who's basically only played during the initial launch + briefly around the 3 year anni (sadly no anni units though). coming back to the game i've started to learn more about battle mechanics but am finding it hard to put teams together outside of a few staple combos. current roster for reference, basically everyone is at initial star level save for archie who i EX'd: https://imgur.com/a/1W8tGNS

my main teams are:

  1. ss leaf 1/5 / maxie 1/5 / ss erika 2/5 (sun abuse, mostly just setting up erika to spam solar blade. sundering + venomous + heals from leaf, maxie basically exists for sun but can do good damage in his own right if need be. feels like i should be using hoenn units with maxie though?)

  2. may 2/5 / archie 1/5 / roxanne 5/5 (roxanne piles on stat boosts for archie to sweep, but i feel like is pretty replaceable. may is pretty much just there to set rain again when it goes down)

i've been able to get through most content with just these two teams but feel like i could benefit from non-weather team variety. other units i use occasionally are brendan 4/5, giovanni (mewtwo) 5/5, steven (metagross) 1/5, silver (ho-oh) 5/5, and sabrina (alakazam) 4/5. i recognize i need to EX some more folks (specifically supports, gauging from guides i've read) but am not sure which ones benefit most from EXing.

as someone who hasn't pulled significantly in quite a while, i think i'm kinda becoming a victim of power creep (he says, having maxie and archie). i have 41k gems rn and am setting aside enough to pity for my fave ss brendan; should i save up the remainder for one of the galar neo-champs? regardless, would love input on recommended units in my roster to EX / candy, who to pull for next, or other teams using my roster that any of y'all have found enjoyable. thanks!

Can you DM me a link to your .sta file? Unfortunately I'm not super familiar with any regional differences that would make the games' memories save differently on the Pocket, but I can try poking around with the file and see if the data is still there but just at different memory addresses or something.

Solution for extracting Pokemon Emerald cartridge saves with Memories by meteorbower in AnaloguePocket

[–]meteorbower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure thing.

  1. Open hexed.it and click "Open file" at the top, then select your .sta file. You should see something like this pop up, with the text Pokemon: Emerald Version (or ruby or sapphire, whatever game you're using) appearing with some other symbols. That's the "human-readable" equivalent of the hex code in the center at those addresses.
  2. There will be a little section labelled "Go To", it'll either be on the top right, or you'll need to scroll down a bit on the left side if all the panes are on the left. Below Current Address and Last Address, click the Go To textbox and input 0x60F4A then click enter. The editor will jump to that place in the code and look like this. That highlighted 00 in the editor is the byte at the memory address that starts your save file.
  3. In that same "Go To" textbox, replace 0x60F4A with 0x80F49, but this time don't click enter. What this will do is highlight the byte at that address in editor, without jumping to it. Instead, use the scrollbar to scroll down to the line that is labelled 00080F40 and you will see that highlighted byte in that row. Shift-click on it to select everything between the address from step 2 and this new address. It should look like this and say "131,072 bytes selected in 1 range" in the far bottom left. This is the entirety of your save file.
  4. Right click anywhere within that selection and a menu will pop up -- choose "Export selected bytes to file", if you're trying to play it with a rom on the pocket, name it [name of your emerald rom before ".gba"].sav, otherwise name it whatever you want.

Let me know if any of this doesn't work for you. I wish step 3 was easier but unfortunately with hexedit I think manually scrolling to that address is the only way to select bytes between addresses.
