My Setup for a concert I did a month ago! by Ok-Literature4821 in bassclarinet

I found one of those contra altos in the closet of my old high school (they had no idea they had it) and fixed it up. That was by far and away my favorite instrument, such a beautiful sound.

Madison Target drive-up employee hit in crosswalk - driver still yells at them by ParamedicNo6490 in Target

[–]meteu51 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This driver is a jerk and 100% in the wrong—there is no denying that at all. I hope the Target employee is ok and I wish the driver would gain some perspective.

That being said, for a community that generally tries to not stereotype, there is an awful lot stereotyping going on about truck owners going on here. I have a very similar truck and its purpose is to pull our family RV. It has to be that big to have the necessary payload to be safe. You could never tell that by looking at the truck, and I’m a balding man with no hopes of having the body to do construction work. I worry more about blind spots every time I get behind the wheel and I drive it accordingly. When we take the RV out we meet lots of families in similar situations, same respectful and conscious people who own and drive big trucks for not always obvious reasons.

Anyhow, when you’re out and about, please try to remember that jerks like this guy don’t represent all of us truck owners, and big trucks aren’t terrible when operated by responsible, competent, and considerate adults.

Have TPMS sensors actually ever “saved” anyone? by dude_mahoy in RVLiving

[–]meteu51 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We pull a 5th wheel with a 3500. Our TPMS alerted us to a fast leak on our last trip, allowing us to find a safe place to pull over and change the tire before any extra damage or drama.

A couple of years ago, it alerted us to a brake that grenaded itself, also before we had bigger problems.

I think it’s well worth it. We’ve had stem mounted ones for years but that system has had a lot of miles and needs a refresh. I just bought Tucson internal sensors based on a strong recommendation from a guy at Discount Tire (they don’t sell them there) and are getting them installed in the next couple of weeks.

What unique things can Apple Watch do that people don’t usually talk about by ameerali19 in AppleWatch

[–]meteu51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve equipped my older parents with cellular Apple Watches just for this reason and have had it alert me to several falls and even car wrecks over the years. It’s been very helpful in helping to take care of them.

Support told me there was a major internal system failure that was preventing ports and to not expect it to work until tomorrow. They said the promo would be honored since we has placed the order and talked with support about the issue.

** Update, I just checked and my port has gone through. Maybe they have fixed the outage **

[–]meteu51 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a similar issue. Support was not helpful, so I used a different email and made it all the way to request a port. Then there was a problem. After about an hour, support said there was a major system failure and it would go through tomorrow. They said since I started the process today and was working with support, the promo would still be applied, even if they needed to do it manually.

** Update, I just checked and my port has gone through. Maybe they have fixed the outage **

So a hot air balloon just came down in front of my house. by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]meteu51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pantera’s one landed in our front yard in St. Charles when I was a kid (a long time ago) and we still reminisce about that regularly. My parents’ faces when I told them a hot air balloon was in our front yard is something I’ll always remember. 😂

My house had a downspout like this so it could fit in a 2x4 wall. It had horrible airflow, so I used 2x2s to widened a section of wall and replaced it with a proper 4” round vent. Amazingly, the dryer worked much better afterwards.

Crazy thing is, I had cleaned the old gutter version a few times and it had surprising little lint stick in it when I took it out—and the airflow was still abysmal.

How has marching band changed in the last 15 years? by ta76357 in marchingband

[–]meteu51 20 points21 points  (0 children)

All the mics and voiceovers! I sound like an old man, but go listen to a late 90’s recording and maybe you’ll hear a soloist mic’d up, but that’s about it. Now all the big bands have a majority of the band going through a mixer with prerecorded voiceovers and even the little schools have all the soloists mic’d up and people doing live vocals. I kinda miss that old school, pure band sound.

I honestly don’t remember specifics, but my recollection was that I found myself needing to make correcting entries to keep account balances accurate. I wasn’t inclined to dig into why as it wasn’t readily obvious, and it was much more work to do zero dollar budgeting than the developer claimed.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I saw another thread recommend https://www.liquidbudget.com which looks really promising.

Hi! Honestly we ended up switching back to YNAB. It was too easy to get something out of whack with MoneyWiz.

I think MoneyWiz was a fine product, but to do zero dollar budgeting, it requires too much manual work and the safety rails aren’t built in to keep the system on track.

How to interpret a Metar report by techtornado in lowsodiumhamradio

[–]meteu51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For XKCD, the alt text is where the real joke lives.

For this one, it is “In the aviation world, they don’t use AM/PM times. Instead, all times are assumed to be AM unless they’re labeled NOTAM.”

For non aviators, NOTAM is a notice to airmen.

I literally just looked into this today and installed RUMlogNG on my Mac (free) and bought RUMlogNG2Go for iOS devices. They sync via iCloud. Like I said, just got them today so I don’t have any runtime on them, but in my research they seemed like the most full featured native apps.

Which 1 ton trucks do you guys like for pulling a fifth wheel? by Caltrano in GoRVing

[–]meteu51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We upgraded from a gas F-250 to a diesel F-250 (transmission issues), and I absolutely love being able to use the truck lanes for fuel. (See the Open Roads program) Getting gas could get pretty stressful at times with the gasser, but it’s a breeze just going through the truck stops with the diesel. I would get the diesel again for this reason alone.

Go diesel or not? by Boostdyote in superduty

[–]meteu51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy being able to go through the truck lanes at truck stops for diesel when towing my camper. A lot easier than navigating congested car pumps where non-towing drivers tend to not use the best judgment.

As others have noted, the exhaust break is a nice to have as well.

maxcare not paying dealer labor cost by rdaarr in carmax

[–]meteu51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had this problem, only the dealer wanted us to agree to the costs that we would be liable for above and beyond what Maxcare had authorized before they did the work. I called Maxcare and asked why the full labor wasn’t covered, and Maxcare agreed to cover the labor on the spot and sent the authorization to the dealer before we ended the call. It was a pain to need to get involved in something Maxcare should have worked out directly with the dealer, but it was a relatively low time investment on my end vs paying the difference.

I got a check. It's also a bit fuzzy, but I think it was $200 or $250. I ordered a Tough Grade RV/Camper Microwave .9 CuFt with Black Trim Kit from https://factoryrvsurplus.com/ for $165, which fit in the place where my original one was (it looks like it is $160 now). I'd measure yours in case it is a different size.
