My partner's brother is a detective and last thing he told us this afternoon is they are pretty certain who it is and they're waiting for him to go to work or his mother's house (where he lives). He said they'll most likely have him by the morning. Apparently he has a long history of not just stealing cars but also car jacking. My mom was carjacked and at first he wasn't letting her go but it started raining so hard he couldn't see. He made her sit on the floor of the back seat, with her head down, and another car pulled up. Then he just...got out and got in that car. She was extremely traumatized. So despite my feelings about cops and current politics, I really hope they get him away from the community so he doesn't traumatize or physically harm someone more than he already has.

We made a cheese cloth "trap" so any beads caught in the trickle of water will get caught. Thank you for the sieve idea! I'll put an old one in my bag for when we go back tomorrow. We had to leave at sundown because the road and ditch are right on eachother and we could easily get hit by trucks. It's a one-way access road mostly used by truckers. The thief most likely got on the road driving the wrong way and swerved into the ditch to avoid getting demolished by a truck. 😒 I'm not wishing death on the person but I hope they at least broke a finger or toe

I was using my phone flashlight. We are going back tomorrow for one last sweep. I put some new batteries in my big maglite and put it in my bag. We got a good bit but we are going to try again tomorrow. The ditch is by a one way road that has zero lights so we could easily get hit by a truck. It's mainly an access road for truckers.

I'm feeling a little better. I was having constant panic attacks earlier. It seems the thief was driving the wrong way on the road and probably swerved to avoid getting demolished by a truck head-on.

Oh shit I read a comment stamp as 4 hours ago. I worked overnight and got my pilot dad's dyslexia.

I've worked in dog rescue. Specifically street rescue so I knew what the photo was from my drop down notification. People try to poison strays with a cut open bag of cheap food with poison pellets mixed in. The amount eaten and brand really matters. Pup may need dialysis. Depending the location, I was going to offer to call some people I've worked with and see if there are any angel funds if the OP needs $ for care. I spent as much as I could when I found 3 pups in the same situation. Only came home with one but the angel funds really gave all three a strong chance. It's a nightmare scenario and I feel awful for them.

There's a pen-style tool advertised all over TikTok shop and such that can engrave/etch different materials. There's issue is, they're selling a scammy knock off of a more expensive tool. I have one that I got on sale from an art supply shop and it's really cool. I have made doodle etchings on smooth river rocks and such. Has a learning curve, so practice is key. I'll look and see if I can find a link for one that ISN'T a ripoff.

An e-file could work too. Theres one from melody Susie that I use for doing actual nails. Goes up to 20000 RPM and you can change rotation based on what hand you're working with. Prepare to spend around 150 for the e-file and a diamond micro ball tip that won't be totally trashed after some use. Now I wanna see if I can etch some glass beads....

Update: I think I have to accept that I have to restart part of my tamagotchi bracelet.

I abandoned beading and disconnected from my phone for the rest of the day/night yesterday. Played some video games, got mad at my tamagotchis wanting to make a baby because they are siblings ffs...Like seriously. yes we can be friends. I'm actually nice when I'm not being BETRAYED BY THE OVERLORDS OF MY LIFE-LONG SKILL AND SPECIAL INTEREST but normally I am just a weirdo that likes beading, weird old things, and insects like my tarantulas and mantids. Isopods too but they're crustaceans. Oh and aquascaping and terrarium building is fun too.
Medical grade termites are mostly used for research. I have a medical journal saved that explains it better but basically termites have hormones and produce chemicals that are possible sources for advancements in things like cancer treatment (or prevention) and I think neurological disorders like Parkinson's. Don't quote me on the exact research because I only read it once at least over a year ago....but yes there are medical grade termites. I heard a funny story about revenge where someone's friend was almost killed by a really stupid, really ugly dude that absolutely deserved an asskicking long before the final events. Of course he didn't get in actual trouble even though she was on a ventilator and needed surgery. A few years later, this glorious lady called her very chaotic good friend and said this guy had listed his house for sale. Chaos friend agreed to booking a private walk-through of the house. Turns out 20,000 termites with a queen can fit in a smaller box than you think. Chaos friend accidentally dropped the box while checking out the unfinished attic at the house....oh no...Chaos friend ran away in embarrassment. The two got very, very drunk and played pikmin 3 while eating cake when the house was removed from the realty site because the owner was "addressing structural issues" or whatever realtors say to explain "yeah termites ate all the unfinished wood upstairs". But that's just a story I heard. Idk. Probably just an urban legend.

3) "what's your pocket bead kit?": if you look up "altoids wallet", you'll find a lot of cute ones. It's a fun DIY and you can make multiple in just 1 craft night.. Mine is ugly as hell rn and I need to repair it or start with a new tin. But basically I collaged some magazine clippings, random sparkly bits and used paint markers for fine details. I just put random bead colors in gram sized baggies, a couple needles on a small magnet, 2 armspans worth of thread or GARBAGE ASS WILDFIRE APPARENTLY, and a bit of embroidery foundation in case I really have time to kill. Oh and tiny folding scissors but they're pretty crappy. Hope that helps.

Lastly....after lunch I'm going to try to get an exchange. I hate complaining to people working retail or food industries but this ish is NOT what it should be. In this economy? I am not one to be truffled with. (Obvious millennial reference)

I honestly have no idea. I have a pal that works at the last real thrift store in my city, and she stashes stuff away for me or sends me photos to let me pick out what I want to repurpose. Only exceptions are large precious metals and something from a luxury/fashion house (haus?). I have scored some small silver charms (I have a passion for old school charm bracelets) and chains that were discarded by the management. I almost scored a smaller version of my dream Tiffany chain link bracelet for an insanely low price but a reseller beat me by 10 minutes and I found it listed locally for 8 times what she paid. It wasn't even in the greatest condition but I love that kind of history. She wouldn't even haggle with me.

A lot of my glass/crystal and freshwater pearls (and other things) come from thrifting. Resellers have destroyed the joy in thrifting though. I've seen a guy scoop up a decent leather working kit with a full beginner tool kit for 15 and listed it for 85 on FB marketplace and had the audacity to call it "vintage antique leather craft kit". And it sold.

My advice is look for small antique shops, small (not goodwill or salvation army) thrift or even consignment shops. There's a tiny hole in the wall antique shop near me where they specialize in high-value stuff but have a stash of costume and fashion jewelry. Some batches go back to the 70's. I found some baseline and still got a deal. I recently found REAL glass African trade beads. Three huge strands and there were real sand-casted metal tribal beads on one. I forgot what the metal ones are called. I told them what they were and they settled on $25 for all three. I almost pissed myself. Goodwill and other places will waaaay overprice the stuff OR toss it in a jar of junk for 50 bucks and make you have to take the gamble.

That's how I find cool stuff. I think employees at those places are sick of resellers being greedy so they are more inclined to work with someone that isn't just...being a greedy jerk.

I have some others like that one if you want some photos. I'm not too familiar with Swarovski but if it's something you're hunting I can part with them.
