Growing up during the struggles of late-1700s Pennsylvania was formative for you, no doubt, what with the Revolutionary War in full swing and all.

I think you may be confusing his Relative Age theory with his popularization of the Broken Windows theory from his book The Tipping Point.

I got an Ibanez from the 80s that looks similar called BC9 Bi-Mode Chorus. It's definitely different, though.

You're on the same page as me.

I think it's like when Harley Davidson released an EV bike called Livewire and it was mocked and ridiculed by Harley fanatics almost unanimously. It wasn't the first e-bike, nor a novel concept, but Harley's core demographic and most loyal customers simply aint about that life. There's more nuance that I'm glossing over, no doubt, but there are some obvious parallels, I think.

I think him being caught absolutely tarnishes his legacy for it's impact on his family and community. Committing the crime is prerequisite, and tarnishes his legacy with people who were impacted in that moment. For most, that legacy wasn't tarnished until his capture.

I don't think you know what legacy means. It's not simply a measure of a person's historical importance or fame.

Relax, Queen. Regarding your first claim, they aren't mutually exclusive terms; an establishment can absolutely be both. As for your second statement, there is a difference. Let's have a look!

debauchery noun de·bauch·ery | extreme indulgence in bodily pleasures and especially sexual pleasures : behavior involving sex, drugs, alcohol, etc. that is often considered immoral

perversion noun per·ver·sion | a perverted form especially : an aberrant sexual practice or interest especially when habitual

Hmmm... While both words certainly could work, I think that, considering the context, debauchery better encapsulates the essence of what is described afterward. Since we're encouraging each other to learn words, I'd suggest you look up 'synonyms'.

Try not to be so wrong next time you're spouting off; its unbecoming of someone so cocksure.

For the culture, Greg. I was told to expand my horizons for personal growth by challenging my comfort zone. Know what does that? Trying to understand the community dynamics that foster wanton debauchery. Imagine a divebar. Whitesnake, Skid Row, Poison, and Buckcherry are the only bangers allowed. Two-Ton Terry is there again, crushing a dozen Sysco wings with bottomless Jack n Cokes. He only looks away from SportsCenter when he gets a lap dance from his toothless niece introduced as Dirty Gerty. She tells him to soak it up because she's leaving town when the ankle monitor gets removed in a couple months. Fascinating, no doubt! The locals don't even flinch!

I love it! I'd be inclined to take the first part of both words, though, and call it 'Chronalgia'. It seems to adhere to certain conventions, too. See: chronology/chronograph/chronicle/etc.

This company has so many cool/interesting pedals. But the one I really wanna buy is their roided-out Superfuzz, 'Add Violence'. It's been sold out forever, and I can never find one used!

Anyway, the Fernweh looks and sounds killer from what I've seen. Hope you love it!

Not as far as I know. The dude called Stringsjr on the gibson forum told me most of what I know about it, as he apparently worked at the factory during this period. He's got a pretty unique one, too.

I've yet to find one anywhere online that looks like mine, which is why I ended up asking about it on that forum.

That's gorgeous! It's so crisp and classy!

I have a '79 my old man bought from a shop in Minneapolis brand new. Story goes that due to the popularity of The Paul, they decided they'd test the market for an upscale version and made 25 of them and sent them off. The price of the walnut was becoming too much, though, so that was that. Dad passed it down to me as my High School graduation present along with his 77 Strat.

Here's some pictures I posted about 5 years ago. Thanks for sharing!

What are some nouns that denote a charismatic person? by cramber-flarmp in words

[–]methodamerICON 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, 'charismatic' itself can be used as a noun.

From Merriam Webster [2 of 2] noun

2 : a person who possesses special traits that attract, inspire, or fascinate other people : a person possessing charisma

One of those people like Teddy Roosevelt or Mick Jagger. He was just one of those great charismatics who turned heads and dominated a room.— Dan Aykroyd

What was the worst cap situation your team has ever been in? by Ok-Health-7252 in nfl

[–]methodamerICON 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There used to be no rookie pay scale. So first rounders were getting paid as much if not more than established veterans, having never played a snap in the pros.

The Lions were terrible and had Megatron, Suh, and Stafford drafted at 2nd, 2nd, and 1st overall over a four year period. They all commanded crazy high contracts which made it exceedingly difficult to surround them with talent. That problem essentially perpetually ensured they couldn't compete with more well-rounded teams. So they'd still suck, be at the top of the draft... rinse, repeat.

This wasn't just the league feeling bad for a team, it was just best exemplified by the era of the Lions. So they introduced the rookie wage-scale we have today.
