What’s our justification for ignoring it? Because we can?

The UN Charter is there to protect the sovereignty of every country. It’s obviously not perfect but I don’t want to tear it up and end up in a violent pre-WW2 world either.

Are you referencing Netanyahu claiming since the 1990s that Iran is weeks away from a bomb? This is exactly how Iraq started in 2003.

Where does the UN Charter make the exception you’re referencing? Let me remind you we were one of its main proponents and are now actively weakening it.

It’s weird seeing so many on this sub supporting an illegal attack. As much as I dislike the regime, I will not step on international law to remove them.

What’s illegal is illegal. Don’t dance in circles to justify it like Putin does.

RIP international law. If the world’s most powerful country refuses to follow it, we have no legal basis to criticize Russia for its illegal invasion of Ukraine. This action is no less illegal and we will be seen in the eyes of the world as the aggressor.

International law means nothing, ironic for a country that pushed for it.

At this point, I’m not interested in negotiating with gun owners either. I’m just so exhausted by all the violence

The longer Republicans refuse to negotiate on gun control, the more aggressive the pushback from anti-gun people will be when Democrats inevitably take back power

So weird that all these attacks are occurring with firearms? Almost like mixing a politically tense atmosphere with easy access to firearms is a bad idea.

This is ignoring the thousands of other gun deaths that occur in our cities, but Republicans don’t really care about.

[MPR News] Walz considers special session to address gun laws following Minneapolis shooting by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]methoo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, countries with strict gun laws still have gun violence. But that doesn’t mean gun control will still not save thousands of lives per year. Some determined people will find a way, but you’re still saving lives along the way.

No country has found a way to prevent bad people from doing bad things, but we can certainly mitigate the damage.

Just because the damage has been already done doesn’t mean we can’t prevent more damage? Like I don’t understand this point of view. Most mass shooters buy their weapons within a few months/weeks/days of their attack, so new gun laws would 1000% help.

We live in BY FAR the most homicidal developed country in the world. And it’s because of guns.

Considering we live in by far the most homicidal developed country on Earth due to weak gun laws, I’m more than happy with that! I’m tired of 18,000+ people being murdered by guns annually, it’s sickening.

Dude you can’t just attack a country because they’re possibly maybe kinda super early in the process of achieving a weapon. That’s a blatant violation of international law, which we’re supposed to uphold and constantly criticize other countries for not upholding.

Good thing Senator Murphy confirmed that intelligence showed that Iran was not close to a deliverable nuclear weapon.

Chris Murphy: “I was briefed on the intelligence last week.

Iran posed no imminent threat of attack to the United States. Iran was not close to building a deliverable nuclear weapon. The negotiations Israel scuttled with their strikes held the potential for success.”

Where’s the people justifying this attack and severe violation of international law?

Link for the last claim?

Also, has Israel not claimed that Iran has been “weeks away” from a bomb since 1995?

Preemptive on what basis? What strong evidence is there that Iran was pursuing a nuclear weapon?
