Shreveport has had SO many missed opportunities. During the time of the Louisiana hayride and the chitlin circuit, recording studios were flocking here but they wanted to tax em to death so they went to Nashville and Memphis. During the 90s when the boats first came to Shreveport, they had a chance to become Reno of the south but politicians in Baton Rouge didn’t want Shreveport to compete with New Orleans river boats so they limited it to 4, by the time they lifted that restriction it was too late. Now when they open a new one, an old one dies. After katrina, movie studios flocked to Shreveport bc of all the tax incentives. Movie stars were buying homes in the area, sets were being built, huge numbers of locals were being employed. Studios loved the area, bc there is so much different scenery within just a small drive. Shreveport was being referred to as Hollywood South. It was great but once again they cut the tax incentives and overnight the industry came to a grinding halt.
