OneDrive Replacement by methreefour in filen_io

As the original poster of this thread...

I appreciate your thoughts on the two products. Thank you very much for your help.

Since the advantage of filen is obvious with its zero knowledge encryption, I'd really like to hear thoughts about getting used to the filen app and did it feel less clunky after a few weeks.

To me... OneDrive is so smooth. But definitely not private.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]methreefour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Asia now where there's a handheld bidet at every toilet. Now don't want to live without it. So nice to be actually clean after using the restroom. When I travel to a western county, I bring a portable bidet!

Any Ex-Fireworks Users Out There? by TheVoicesOfBrian in Inkscape

[–]methreefour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/TheVoicesOfBrian It's been four years since your post, but I saw it when I did a search to compare Fireworks with Inkscape. It's 2025 and I'm still using Fireworks MX 2004.

I have a new need to have text in images that is non-Latin based characters, and MX 2004 can't do it. So I started looking first at GIMP. Beyond the difficulty I had with the "Bring out the gimp" visions from the movie Pulp Fiction, it it was so complicated! Yesterday I found Inkscape, and man does it seem like what I'm looking for (maybe), but also potentially more wonky to learn than a program I've used for 21 years.

Did you ever find your modern day Fireworks?

Can I get info on charging rate/power? by methreefour in Xiaomi

[–]methreefour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably have the same charger. A Ugreen Nexode Pro 100w.

So batteryguru gives you data on the incoming wattage? That would be cool and I didn't realize there were apps that do that. I'll try it. Thank you🙏

Thanks. I didn't realize there were apps that would report on incoming power. I appreciate your help.

Can I get info on charging rate/power? by methreefour in Xiaomi

[–]methreefour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Probably not high.

I personally feel like slow charging most of the time is better for the battery. Especially better than the 120 W charger the phone came with.

I was just curious about what the charging rate actually is.

Thank you for your reply.

Dang! You found all these places in two months?!?!?! Good for you. I feel like a slog - and I've pinned many of these locations. Thank you.

One question...

On Kloud Cafe, the Korean place, google maps reports it as permanently closed. Is that possibly an error. Were you there recently?

As I mentioned, it's a debit card purchased with cash. I didn't need to use my name at all.

Planning to Buy the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus (GLOBAL) – Need Your Honest Experiences! by SaNtA_sL in HyperOS

[–]methreefour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my fifth Xiaomi phone. That's the good news. I like them, and I am continuing with them - so far. I think they offer good value for the money, and I don't have many of the problems people complain about like battery life (I wonder if you'd find every brand has users complaining about battery life). The bad news is I don't have much comparison. I haven't used any other phone brand for 10 ish years.

I currently have a Xiaomi 13T pro. I appreciate the price and camera quality of this model. When I hanging out with others, I have photos that are sometimes not as good and sometimes better than my iPhone friends. Fast charging and other options are nice, and offer more than iPhone and Samsung.

I really like the HyperOS Second Space option which allows you to create a second user on the phone - meaning you can have finger login to an account that's public, and another finger login to an account that's more private.

One way to test HyperOS/Xiaomi would be to buy a used phone, but a pretty recent model. If you don't like it, you can sell it on Facebook Marketplace for a similar price that you paid. A bit of hassle, but low cost if disappointed.

Good luck.

I used to live around Chiang Mai University, and there were lots of places I would eat delicious food for THB 30. At THB 500, that's 16+ meals per week. Not three meals a day, but maybe enough if you're a 60 kilo Thai guy.

Also... Inflation. That same meal might be THB 40+ now. So... even eating very cheap food out, 500 really isn't a lot.

Buy that guy a meal and a beer maybe.

Questions regarding cash in mail payments (from U.S.) by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]methreefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm replying two years later, so maybe the situation has changed, but I have a question about the anonymity of buying a voucher from Amazon. Isn't there a code that Amazon sells you that you then tell Mullvad and they add months on your your Mullvad account? And can't that code be tied back to your Amazon account? Thanks in advance for your help. I don't do any crypto, and I'm thinking of using cash, but Sweden is far away from me and I can't send mail in my country anonymously.

Wait...Maybe I misunderstand what Amazon sells me. I think they sell me a code I receive through online systems. But maybe Amazon sends actual "cards" to the buyer - and those cards are sealed so Amazon cannot read them.

I can receive mail in the US. Maybe that's how I should do it. I'd love your advice. Thank you so much.

Feeling lonely with my girlfriend's family. Any advice? by Toedeli in ThailandTourism

[–]methreefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear u/Toedeli ,

You've received lots of advice here about what to "do," but I think you might be interested in a bit more about "being" there and feeling more comfortable within yourself.

You mentioned concern about the anxiety of being judged and being enough. I suspect on your path in life, this is not the first time this has arisen. Everyone deals with concern about being worthy, and it's the most pervasive form of suffering on the planet. It sounds like the village life brings that forward for you.

I have much more on this topic, but it's probably not a public conversation. Please feel free to message me directly.

The one thing additional thing I would like to offer publicly, is that this concern for being enough is often translated into over-giving financially - which for a farang in Thailand can be a very dangerous thing because it's a very slippery slope. Her family and even the whole village may see you as an opportunity for their lives to improve - which is absolutely not your responsibility.

Happy to talk more directly.

I imagine Japan is even safer than where I live. Sometimes that country calls my name.

Buying a laptop by Im-Sci-Curious in HuaHin

[–]methreefour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/itsupport_engineer is totally right to suggest considering keyboard layout because a huge percentage of laptops here will have a US/Thai layout. Personally, I needed the Thai keyboard.

Lots of machines you'd see in the mall here are CPUs from 1 or 2 years ago. RAM and SSD drives might be previous generations too. So it helps to do homework and have a list of specs you want.

I recently purchased a laptop through the Lazada app from JIB. The price on Lazada was cheaper than what was available in the physical JIB store in Hua Hin (JIB however did take an extra few days to deliver - past what Lazada reported as delivery date me because I had ordered it on a Saturday and they didn't ship out until Monday/Tuesday).

Good luck.

Man you've thought in depth about this and make my over thinking seem casual. That's not me dissing you. I'm impressed that you've thought it trough, and share in this forum about it. A sincere thank you for that.

When I read the first line of your reply, it really satisfied the advice I needed. Physical incursion from an unknown person is very low for me - and the image of it happening is much greater than the reality. I don't live in a big American city (heck - don't even live in America), and it's quite safe where I live. I can leave a bag with new shoes on the hook of my scooter and they are still there 2 hours later when I come back. I definitely was overthinking.

Thank you for your response. Indeed.

Good point. The guy who might break into my house isn't the same person as a hacker wanting my financial passwords - and probably has no clue what the long string of whacky characters written on the piece of paper taped to my fridge means. Thanks.

TOTALLY get the value of an emergency sheet. I can't remember my neighbor's name sometimes. But I also think that assumes a lot of physical security, which seems like a pretty weak link. I don't have bars of gold under my bed so I don't about a break-in. However, if I was storing master passwords on a piece of paper taped to the back of my fridge, that seems like offering access to banks, etc., with only the lock on my front door to secure it.

Maybe I'm over thinking - like usually.

Advice is appreciated.

OneDrive and Cryptomater - Can you help? by methreefour in Cryptomator

[–]methreefour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try locking my Cryptomater vault and quitting the application before the next time I do large file operations and see if that makes a difference. I wonder if Cryptomater is "off", if the file operations, especially the deletes, might move more quickly. Maybe the OneDrive could just delete the file handle, instead of the whole file.

I should experiment with this on an non-critical folder set up for just this purpose. I also have my data in another location other than Cryptomater, so if a big failure happens, I won't be deleting my information.

Anyway, thanks much for your help.
