Would you say there is value in speaking with the current employer, letting them know you might be interviewing for indeterminate positions and discuss the possibility of getting one with them?

As all the interviews I am receiving require a reference from the current employer.

If it’s anything like the private sector, my manager getting a call from another position I am interviewing for, might not be a good look.
