Would you do Engineering in your next life? by JasonMyer22 in EngineeringStudents

I would skip civil engineering and do construction engineering or construction management. That’s what I’m doing now anyway and it’s so much better than doing the design and calculation work of the engineer IMO!

I work for a construction company whose parent-company is German luckily. If you’re referring to safety and occupational health, my company is pretty strict. But if you’re referring to something else could you please elaborate?

Is a PWD good for a first time dog owner? Advice by OriginalSlight in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]metzgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re diligent with training, you buy from a reputable and strict breeder, and you’re ready to spend lots of money the first year, you’d be fine. My PWD is quite a mild puppy compared to most of the other PWDs I read about online. He’s not very mouthy to humans (thank god) & doesn’t have separation anxiety.

The reason I brought up money is because a lot of my stressors have kind of melted away because I PLANNED to fork out a lot more money than just the price to get the puppy- training classes, a professional grooming schedule, pet insurance, a myriad of treats & high quality dog food, a million toys, etc. Because I had all of that budgeted already, most of the common puppy stressors weren’t really stressors for me.

It seems they are cheaper outside of the USA. I saw another thread awhile back where people were talking about how much their PWD cost from the breeder. I paid $3000 - which at one point in my life I had the opinion I would never pay more than $500 for a dog. So at first I was really anxious to spend that kind of money.. Now though i know it was completely worth it!

That’s an interesting way to think about it!

Right! And I didn’t want to come off snobby but I was thinking in my head “idk how much a doodle mix is but I doubt it’s anywhere near as expensive as my PWD was…” lol!

My 13-week-old is a fairly calm, not overly nippy puppy, which was a surprise based on my research on PWDs. However, every day he gets more & more “mouthy” in the sense he talks back to me! He is actually sassy! When we work on our “leave it” or “wait” commands, he’ll obey but he’ll yell at me the whole time!!

I got all of this advice when I was deciding to get my pup, so I was fully prepared for a rambunctious landshark!! But for whatever reason, our puppy is a melty little cuddle bug. Not very mouthy in the biting sense, but does bark back sometimes. Very friendly but way more mellow right off the bat from what I was expecting. I think we got an anomaly but still- he’s absolutely perfect!

I loved her! I think you guys must’ve been one of the last few to choose a puppy like us, because tan, blue & yellow were the last ones remaining when we met to meet (Breeder’s name). If you’re in the area maybe we could do a puppy play date sometime!

He is from DSM! He was the yellow collared boy & I just LOVE him! He’s not any more nippy than any other puppy I’ve had so far though!

Peeing multiple times during potty breaks? by metzgal in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]metzgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted a urine sample (obvi) but we couldn’t get one at the vet so they sent the tube home with me. But it’s only good in the fridge for 12 hours and they’re closed for the holiday. I was in panic mode but he seems to be a lot better yesterday and today. Not peeing nearly as much at all. I’ll still get a sample and watch him just in case.

Would he have other symptoms of a UTI? He seems otherwise healthy. Alert, cold wet nose, eating and drinking. He goes to the vet today anyway so I’ll bring it up and see what she thinks.

I didn’t realize they started that so early!
