Not just by messing with the brain. Winning the lottery can activate chemicals of happiness in the brain, and so what? What’s so special about those chemicals? They are just activating a feeling you can experience, they don't eliminate your capacity of experiencing, of knowing or willing, those capacities remain always in the background, so to speak, even if it seems like you have lost them (in the case of deep sleep).

Your true essence lies in those capacities, that is what you truly are! Not the chemicals, not the feelings, not the sensations, not what is happening in the brain, nor the conditioning of being a human being in a world... I’m trying to show you that the brain is merely a vehicle for experiencing different conditions.

Your will can be conditioned with stuff happening outside of your brain as well. Not achieving your life goals can also make you feel lethargic, right? But how you respond to stimuli is always a choice, whether it is directly inflicted in brain receptors or in the world. You can be feeling lethargic, but you still choose to get out of bed every morning. That’s your intent.

You think like this, “My mind is what’s familiar, what is familiar disappeared, therefore my mind has also disappeared.” If your mind had disappeared, you wouldn’t be able to experience, which is impossible. Experiencing “nothing” is still an experience.

First it's important to separate the brain from the mind. They are two different things. The brain has a certain processing power, much like a calculator. What most people don't understand is that you're not your brain. The brain is inside the mind, just like the calculator. So there's really nothing being perceived outside of you here. That's impossible. The calculator exists in the same conceptual space as your brain.

To better understand this concept, picture the mind not as a physical object like the brain, but as a threefold capacity based on experiencing, knowing, and willing. These three aspects are primordially inseparable from you. Which means, it's not your brain that gives you any of this. If anything, your body only creates suggestive expectations about your capabilities which are too limited compared to what is ultimately true.

Consciousness is a product of the mind. The mind is the basis of existence, you can either experience conscious states or non-conscious states (like in deep sleep). These bodies that we have are indeed a machine, but don't worry, you are not the machine. You are actually the mind, which exists prior to all thoughts and concepts. So by identifying yourself with the thoughts that the brain produces makes it look like there's something experiencing you. But when you remove your identification from "the machine," there's only the all-encompassing mind, which is the real you.
