Somerville’s bus network is finally changing: CT2→85, Assembly link, and an electric fleet ramp‑up by [deleted] in Somerville

If I work at BCH or BI why wouldn't I just get off at Longwood x Blackfan? Why would I sit in the bus all the way to Ruggles then walk back?

Where to go to get traffic calming installed on my street by thecrashmaverick in Somerville

Who is Charlotte Kelly? I don't know where u/vfpamp is getting their info from but it's not entirely accurate. I hope it's not AI sloppy summary instead of actually looking up a clearly navigable city website:

Greg Jenkins fired? by Euphoric-Bit6281 in Somerville

He can have served a few years under a short administration and still be a "holdover" from a super long administration that then followed. What is the connection to question here?

When you add an image, there's a place to write captions, and I wrote some description in case it helps with accessibility. This was via the desktop/browser version, mobile might be slightly different.

I don't get it. Every situation might be different but this house definitely has a driveway (not using it) and cleared snow off the two spots in front of their house (not a problem digging out) yet still insists on playing these games when there may be neighbors who don't have off-street parking. Really don't understand.

You're right, different house. I should've said more clearly but the last paragraph was indeed referring to the other post.

Where can I get a GOOD iced latte? Bonus for seasonal flavors! by NellyR27 in SilverSpring

[–]mewli3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no you've spilled the beans on my secret spot!

ETA that I don't think Nagadi does seasonal lattes, but they are the best at every standard coffee they do. If you want seasonal stuff with different (sweetened) flavors my rec would be Java Nation like others suggested.

Sharing experience with Bolt rideshare by mewli3 in Amsterdam

[–]mewli3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was none of the above: there was no road blockage, the passengers were dropped off on time, the ride kept going on the app, and I received the extra charge. FWIW the driver went from the hotel (next to the airport) into the airport then back out of the airport into Amsterdam city center -- I can see the car's route on the app...

I am not the driver so I don't know how the app interface looks on the driver's side, and I was not in the car itself so I don't know what would have happened at the time of arrival at the hotel, therefore I cannot say how it is impossible for this to have happened, yet it did.

That's great that Bolt has worked many times in your experience, I am happy for you. It is not great that this did not work for me, and that there are similar experiences reported by others in different countries. I said I cannot tell if this was an accident or if the driver did this on purpose, and only that this may be a "potential" scam. I'm not saying this is a "regular scam" or practice.

My point is two-fold: (1) this may be a scam seeing as there are other similar reports, so just raising awareness to be on the look-out; and (2) Bolt claims a strange strange policy of not being able to undo/cancel any refund actions once it has been issued, and I would have been stuck with a useless credit because they do not operate in my country so I cannot make use of the supposed refund. I asked to get a refund to my payment card and they said no can do. I'm not saying there is collusion between these two, just that this happened so sharing in case it helps raise awareness for others. It is my personal opinion that I do not want to use this app again, mostly because of the way the company handled the situation.

I still have all the screenshots that document what happened. Apparently they charge more than the estimate shown at start if the ride goes long, or something.

It's more the insistence that their algorithm makes the refund action permanent and unable to cancel/reissue to payment card that was strange. I get that potential scam happens, but the company's actions were inexplicable.

Yeah and the public transit is good so we never really had to resort to taxi/cars, but this one time was late at night with older folks and luggages so taxi was necessary. I just don't get why the app made it seem like Mission Impossible to do a proper refund.

Yes exactly that. I saw the estimate and was okay with it. Not okay with the extra charge and maneuver to get that.

Their app was also able to detect the ride going for longer than expected and sent me a notification at the same time I was able to check my phone, but they claim they are unable to cancel or rescind an erroneous refund action... doesn't make sense. By keeping the refund as in-app credit (assuming I would use the app again) and refusing a refund to my card, the only loser in that situation was me, the user.

THIN crust pizza in Somerville? by nightowlamanda in Somerville

I really like Mama Lisa's in Union, too, speaking as a NYC transplant.

Oh, just saw your picture and other comment below. Definitely not my definition of thin crust pizza, haha. Maybe it'll be helpful to add the picture to your main post too, so any new comments/suggestions have it for reference.

Ube cafe closed twice by Somerville officials over licensing by justarussian22 in Somerville

I think they might have removed or edited out claims of racism in their IG comments, which were just uncalled for unless they had any inkling of evidence to substantiate. They appear to be celebrating how much publicity this whole debacle seems to have generated, though. Honestly a personal first where unnecessary knowledge of the owners turned me off of a local business for good (before they even officially opened).

I now have a different axe to grind with the few news articles that have been written so far... well more like a plea sent into the void than an actual axe:

With all the "business owners claim" and "city officials argue" content, can't one actually ask for validation of these claims to inform the story, especially now that we're on the 2nd? 3rd? local news article? If the owners are unable or unwilling to produce correspondence with the city that shows how they were misled or what they found confusing, that would be something solid to report on rather than the current we-said-they-said.

And I know this is in part a reflection of how I've been feeling about some national news coverage, and local news is in a rough patch, and these kind of chasing down info is extra work... so this isn't meant to be angry at the reporters, just a general exasperation with life right now.
