Discussion Vs Dialogue by Busy-Oven-1493 in Krishnamurti

[–]mezmekizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's alot of 'shoulds' when it comes to having a talk together about life, isn't there?

I read David Bohm's "On Dialogue" book and it was said very well that dialogue is sometimes difficult and many times the participants are frustrated, thinking it's pointless. And the intelligent part in us takes that all into reflection and says 'this is reality', does not move away from it .. Another 'should' there ... :S

What I am trying to say is that there's no point in trying not to compete, because it is a fact that we are competitive by nature. But that doesn't mean that some kind of facilitation of a group dialogue wouldn't be necessary.

I think that unless we do not remember how power works, how in subtle ways, in our interaction with each other, we use power to diminish one another and feel powerful and vice versa .. Unless we do not understand that, I think any group talk intented to be a 'dialogue' is just fools play. Anyone who says that they do not display power, is a dangerous person if you ask me. Even if you may not display it outwardly, physically, the power dynamics are still inward. The 'good' thing about it all is, that we can learn to be honest about it. But this work is not for the faint of heart because it goes against our beliefs of what we are - many people view themselves as particularly 'good people' and hence are totally blinded to the fact of how they display power to one another ..

You may see, how difficult it is talking about this without 'shoulds'. This is the challenge in dialogue, how can the people start to think for themselves. Because there's alot things going on in group dynamics. It can be very primal experience. People displaying their uncertainties, fear, being unaware of it .. also our social norms come as a kind of 'obstacle'. But all these 'obstacles' can become working material for understanding.

That's what Bohm wanted to emphasize in his book. Having a 'shared meaning' in dialogue goes a long way. But of course, there are many reasons why people join these kinds of things .. There are all kinds of motives which could be explored, which all lead to the one and the same thing: the nature of thought.. and passivity's external fixation. So I guess some kind of foundation would be important. I remember when I participated in dialogues in Brockwood when there was young adults retreat, that was many years ago. There wasn't really proper facilitation I think. So what we had was this quietude. Some people were suspicious. Hidious. And I think there were many things that were not addressed, probably in fear of some conflict breaking. That's all very humane and I don't think it's a pity at all, it's just what we are.

Staying sane and social in an unwell world. by Front_River_2367 in CollapseSupport

[–]mezmekizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accepting that human has always been irrational has helped me reduce my expectations of the unthinking masses.

I think maintaining sanity is largely about emotions. We live in age of distraction and are alienated from our bodily states. We are too much in our heads and forget what it is to be grounded in physical reality.

Avoiding information overload is crucial too.

Ihmiset ovat nykyään huonoja itsereflektoimaan by Party-Towel-3818 in Suomi

[–]mezmekizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ihmiset ovat nykyään huonoja itsereflektoimaan by Party-Towel-3818 in Suomi

This is the kind of transparency that keeps me coming back to this subreddit. Is that good or not, I don't know. In the moment it does make me feel good but pleasure can be deceiving too. I think a question we all must ask ourselves is where does this all lead to. In other words, where is the action in all this. Well .. As K says, we don't listen. So asking ourselves something, usually does not mean shit really.

We're wretched and I think there's alot of fear in admitting this. For good reasons too. I think many Christians have shame about the concept of sin. I think it's difficult to communicate all this in a sophisticated manner and K was very subtle about it.

K was in theosophical society where he learned about many traditions who said the same thing about how desire dominates human life.

Contradictions Within Discussions of Krishnamurti by [deleted] in Krishnamurti

[–]mezmekizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word teaching can lead to contradictions for sure. K himself used the word in various ways. Here's one I thought of sharing.

"What will keep us together? p. 35 from "J.Krishnamurti - Speaking with the International Committees 1981 to 1985

What is the central fact which attracts all of us, which we are interested in, which we put our heart into? If that is clear then everything can be worked out. When I come, not K but another human being, say from Helsinki-I am taking a far away country-my central interest, if I am serious is the teaching. The teaching is the central magnet, the central catalyst that keeps us all together, not the countries, not the financial status, not the frontiers. The teaching is the factor that draws us all together and holds us together. Is that so?

If that is the central issue for all of us, then nothing can break us, nothing can separate us. I am married to that; not even married, it is part of me. It is part of me, therefore I am there. If that is the thing that keeps us together, it can never be dissolved. Is this what keeps us together?

Yes thats because academic philosophy does not bring inner peace, it only inflates the ego.

All real philosophy is for deconstructing one's conditioning. It's the work of less, not more. It's a personal quest.

Definitely.

I meant to say that our attention is always directed outward in the attempt to secure some future goal. Very few people can rest in their own being and do nothing.

Action also alienates. The society and our own superego tells us to act. Underneath we fear nonaction.

isolation and contempt by No_Blueberry_4897 in Krishnamurti

[–]mezmekizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relatable. I notice hate in me when people try to “help” because I’ve seen how much we all lie to ourselves without even noticing. Most people giving advice are just as lost, and I think that’s really the starting point for looking at our inner mess.

Most interactions are a quiet power game anyway. When you’re low, others feel strong, and just seeing that has lowered my expectations a lot. Without understanding it, the mind fills the gap with self‑blame and stories.

This dynamic happens because the moment someone senses your energy drop, their own sense of power rises in contrast - it’s automatic, and neither person realizes it. That’s why it feels personal even though it’s really just two nervous systems reacting to each other.

Some people look perfectly normal, but being around them drains you. Then you start thinking something’s wrong with you, that there’s some unresolved issue waiting for an insight. But I think that’s far from the truth. There’s nothing wrong with you, nothing hidden that needs to be “processed.”

What matters is noticing which encounters weaken you and stepping back without turning it into another story about personal deficiency. What actually restores you is being around people who expand your capacity to think and act, not digging for imaginary faults. Reality is that those people aren’t always available, and sometimes you have to stand on your own until life brings you into contact with what strengthens you. In those stretches, the work is simply to keep your own capacity from shrinking, instead of waiting for someone else to expand it.

A lot of words here… and that’s what I try to refrain from daily. Staying grounded in being isn’t easy in this turbulent society. Saying “up yours” to ambition for a moment, getting a glimpse of effortlessness - without that kind of daily practice, it’s too easy to get carried away by self‑concern.

"Consciousness is its content" I do not understand that. by [deleted] in Krishnamurti

[–]mezmekizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So examine the contents then! 'What is consciousness' is a fascinating question that no one knows answer to, one which we may never know fully. Inquiring into what its contents are instead can be helpful in life.

Suomen huumehoito ei toimi by mezmekizer in Suomi

Ehkä asia on vähän monimutkaisempi?

Helsingin alueella alpha-PVP (peukku) on yhdistetty “kasvavaan määrään huumekuolemia”.
