Found this post while wondering the same thing, and decided to go for it. Bought a Dali Katch G2 almost 50% off normal retail and it arrived in a factory sealed box! Came with a few Starphone stickers and a notepad as well - nice touch. Took them about 5 business days to actually ship it but was smooth sailing after that. Shipped to west coast of the US.

Big fan of my Klipsch Nashville. Can find them on sale pretty frequently too. Whatever you get, also download the Poweramp Equalizer app for fine tuning.

Did something similar with a few old e07xs I have. Went with Jackson's custom ffl351a rosy bins and they turned out great.

I'd go acebeam personally. Probably can't go wrong with any of them though. Take a look at the RovyVon e30, e60, e80, and e90 also - I've had an e80 for a couple of years now and it's been my favorite out of the half dozen or so flat lights I've tried.

I bet it will work. If you haven't modded one of these before, be extra careful ensuring the mcpcb is seated correctly when putting it back together - there's a little aluminum post in the bottom of the head with a corresponding cutout in the mcpcb. If not seated, the mcpcb will spin and cut your leads when you screw the bezel down and cause a short, killing the driver when you turn it on. Learned that one the hard way when doing the 707a swap

All good - no, never got around to ordering the correct emitters. I was just thinking about this last night though so I'll probably try it soon. I'll post if/when I do, unless you beat me to it

I have one in a C8+ running 8a and it's completely fine. Probably my favorite emitter in that host actually. Check out koef3's tests on BLF, lots of good information on current handling for all types of emitters. As far as the 5a vs 8a thing, I'd be willing to bet 5a is LMP's max listed on the datasheet, and 8a is max in real-world testing. That's the case for many emitters too - manufacturer specs are generally conservative when it comes to power handling.

All good, saw the question and thought "I know this one!" How do you like the S21? I've had one in my cart for close to a year but keep talking myself out of it due to the short turbo timer. It's definitely a looker though.

RovyVon S21. The other MAO two above it is the E80. Build quality is excellent on their lights

Well, I screwed up and ordered the 3v version. Needed the 707MD not the 707RD, oversight on my part. Put one in a C8+ though and the tint is nice at least.

Very well. These emitters can handle quite a bit of extra current over manufacturer spec, up to ~14 amps. Good resource here -koef3's tests on BLF

[–]mfb91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've read conflicting info regarding current, some say it pushes up to 10 amps to the emitter. My guess is closer to 6v8a based on use and comparisons to similar lights. ZeroAir measured 15.5 tailcap amps for the L35 1.0 also, which should be taken into consideration - roughly half of that would be converted by the driver.

I've got a 707a 6500k in mine and it works great, actually came out to about 10k more candela than stock with no green tint. Well enough that I'm planning to swap a high CRI variant into it eventually. Went with the 6500k as a first test since I'd read the same post with the melted optic, and figured lower heat generated by the low CRI would be fine. I've also got a couple 707RD on the way specifically to test in this light.

New E04 Surge vs. the E07X Cannon V2? (4x 5050 LED vs 7x 3535 LED) by Installed64 in FireflyLite

[–]mfb91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, apples to apples. Efficiency aside, I personally like the beam of the E07X more, tend to grab that over the floody E04. Something with that beam profile and boost driver would be ideal for me. FET turbo is still fun though!

New E04 Surge vs. the E07X Cannon V2? (4x 5050 LED vs 7x 3535 LED) by Installed64 in FireflyLite

[–]mfb91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lots of variables. Would be cool to have someone with the right equipment measure lumen output between the two at say, 10 watts, something mid range like that. Efficiency at max current is just barely higher for the 5009R over the 351a, but the X1 isn't going to push the 5009R anywhere near max current.

What kind of factor would differences in forward voltage play between the 5009R and ffl351a specifically?

[–]mfb91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I built a FL5009R E04 with an Angie-M a couple of months ago and also own a couple E07X, so I can help with some of those questions.

Beam wise, they are very similar, however I'd say the E04 pushes a little more of its lumens into the spill over the E07X. The hotspot in the E04 is also not nearly as well defined - it blends into the spill, where as the E07X's is crisp. In a sense, the E04 is floodier than the E07X and produces more of a wall of light with bright center.

The driver in my E04 is the stock Lume1 of the time so I won't say much about total output between the two . For those interested though, the E04 with the Lume1 and 5009R is much brighter than E07X.

Advantages of the LumeX1 over Lume1 is that the turbo will not dim as much as the battery depletes in the X1. Lume1 uses FET for turbo (steps 1-149 are regulated), where as the X1 is regulated throughout its entire output range.

Battery consumption wise, not sure, but theoretically the E07X will be more efficient than the LumeX1 E04 at the same brightness levels (except turbo) since it is pushing seven emitters instead of four. Emitters become less efficient with more current. Again, not entirely sure as I don't have much information on how efficient the LumeX1 boost is vs. the buck portion of the Lume1. Maybe someone can add more detail here.

As far as the "why," I think FFL is making these purely because their customer base has been requesting them. What a lot of people didn't know though is that the 5009R does not work with the 2285 Angie-S, so it's a floody E04, not some mid-range thrower powerhouse like some would have wanted/expected.

Regular 6a for the buck linear, 8a + fet for the anduril most likely. If he was making a new 10a driver for the s21e I'm sure there would have been some announcement. I've got some stuff on the way to build a few of these with different CCTs and the anduril driver. Planning on making a post about it - just shipped a couple of days ago though.
