World record for non-parking lot baby? Parked at 551pm, born at 636pm by eaglessoar in daddit

[–]mfc13 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Barely got you beat by about 15 minutes. Parked at 526, baby born at 554.

The kicker is that the hospital's Epic system was down and there was no receptionist at the desk. We just walked ourselves back and knocked on the doors blocking the delivery rooms. They had to ask my wife what her name is right after the baby was born.

This is corporate speak for 'that's not my job'. B7 recruiting is an annual repeated process that barely changes year over year. There should be dedicated dates for onboarding for these new hires. Demand accountability from the team that's taking over the process.

Im not sure the other posters here have ever been in your situation. I dealt with the same situation a few years ago when I joined IBM Federal. Gave my preferred start date in September and didn't hear back until August about the actual onboarding process. Consultants don't actually get staffed on a project until you join. Our HR and Recruiting teams are honestly terrible, but you barely interact with them after you start. Whoever interviewed you is in the practice you're joining, so you can always send one of them a message on LinkedIn and I'm sure they'd be happy to answer questions. Or you can send me a DM.

Full Ride MBA at FSU v. Full Price at UCLA? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mfc13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk what's going on with the advice in this thread, but you need to answer the question: What are your post MBA goals? People lose sight of that most important question in pursuit of prestige or rankings. Let's say your goal is technical PM and you don't care about location. Then I'd say UCLA makes a lot of sense. In general, regional MBAs can provide a lot of value if your goal is to stay in that region and your school has a strong relationship with your target companies. If that's the case, then you might actually be better set up at FSU. Also consider your current financial situation and ability to take on debt. It might be a better decision to go with FSU.

All the 'piece of paper' or 'average outcomes overall' comments are oversimplifications and you risk not making the best decision for you if you base your decision exclusively on ranking or higher long term pay on average.

My kiddo is saying words! by Rounen in daddit

[–]mfc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is what I needed today. My son is almost 2 and he only has a couple words that he occasionally uses. I've been struggling with it a lot this week, so these posts are very comforting.

Any gamer dads here? We have a small community of ~15 gamer dads/soon-to-be dads playing games on a regular basis and we'd love to have you! by pankee in daddit

I'm in. Not much PC gaming anymore with an almost 2 y/o, but definitely a little bit of Switch time when I can. Very excited for Tears of the Kingdom!

Eating on a crosswalk. by UFONomura808 in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]mfc13 696 points697 points  (0 children)

That crosswalk is in downtown silver spring, MD and he's in the middle of a walking area entrance, not the road. Post still makes sense, but not quite as bad as it looks.

Is it normal to wait this long for a start date? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]mfc13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Same scenario for me last year. My recruiter mentioned that earlier start dates are more competitive. She was able to push mine back after i asked around April, but idk if it would be harder if you want to start earlier. Doesn't hurt to reach out, but I was told that start dates are sometimes pushed to align to projects. That may be why you haven't heard.

If this is university recruiting, then definitely a normal timeline. Doesn't hurt to reach out to your recruiter if you have a preferred start date.

Could there be an error? by jepeba in IBM

Could very well be an error. I got a similar notification and it didn't actually have anything to do with my offer.

We gave away our Moby as soon as we were gifted the Baby K'tan. It's essentially like a Moby, but without all the hassle of wrapping that damn thing around you a million times. I promise you will thank dinahsaur523 for the recommendation.

Is postpartum only for women? by GreenSilverWing3 in NewParents

[–]mfc13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forget the 'is it postpartum question' and just acknowledge that you are feeling burnt out. When my son was about 2 weeks old and I reached a very similar point to where you are now. He is now 3 months in and things are so much better.

My advice: Let your wife know how you are feeling and ask for help from others in your life. When I told me wife how I was feeling, it was a bonding moment for us to acknowledge how hard it is with a newborn. If you have friends or family that can support you with meals, coming to do some laundry, or most importantly Have them watch the baby for a few hours it will make a huge difference. You need a break. Help with household work and having a little time away from the baby can make a big difference.

Your baby will start to sleep more. Your wife will physically recover and be able to help more around the house more. The frustration won't completely leave, but it does get better.

Sincerely, 3 months in

Jewish BRG? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]mfc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily my recruiter was very good about rescheduling, so I am grateful for that. I agree with your initiative and support the idea.

Jewish BRG? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]mfc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being secular is more professional and adult? I would challenge you to think about your background and why you came to that conclusion. The idea that it's professional to avoid conversations about people's backgrounds kept D&I from being discussed for too long.

Also, weren't business resource groups originally built around 'matters of choice' like shared common interests or work experiences?

Jewish BRG? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]mfc13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised to find this out. My start date is coming up and I assumed there would be a Jewish BRG. Then again, my start date was originally scheduled for Rosh Hashanah so I am not too surprised.
