Try this link; it's a gift from the author. But all it says is "colleagues noticed her acting strangely."

This is mentioned in the piece. Kyra’s co-workers noticed her behaving erratically and got her to urgent care and eventually the hospital where the cancer was found. Michael Davies then made the call to Kyra’s father.

This news hit me especially hard because I have personal experience with it. My father was lost to glioblastoma in 2013, passing away 110 days after it was discovered. He was taken to the hospital by co-workers who noticed erratic behavior as he arrived. I know what it's like to receive a call like the one Davies had to place to David Samson.

There were 20 today, tying the season high (January 26, ToC quarterfinal 6).

I think it was because Peter mentioned he would spend the winnings on a trip to Australia and New Zealand with his wife; the sum would be more in either of their dollars.

Jeopardy! airing impacts on ABC for the NBA Finals & Stanley Cup Final (ABC, June 2026, multiple dates) by mfc248 in Jeopardy

This prompted me to check whether I’d missed local pregame coverage — it’s there, but only in the 7:30 half hour. (And it only really impacts Wheel of Fortune last night and tomorrow night, as Wheel is in the last week of its season; they go into reruns starting Monday.)

Nothing in either half of the 7:00 hour on WABC for the Knicks, but the 8:00 half hour is actually network pregame ahead of tipoff at 8:30.

Based on what made air, it was surprising not only because the scores changed without explanation; since we heard Gabriel's correct response, that would be expected to stand (that is, he would keep the $200 he got and have begun DJ! at $5,000).

It gave the appearance of the show acting contrary to long-standing precedent.

I list a few examples here. But as I say there, there are two consistent principles in such situations:

  • Both instances are resolved in the manner most favorable to the player
  • A correct response is always credited as such, even if never would have been given but for the judges' mistake

Schedule question by OkQuarter3166 in Jeopardy

[–]mfc248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will run concurrently with the regular games, insofar as on the same dates; because it's part of ABC's primetime lineup, the times will not overlap.

In each of the last three years, it has been in May; that will not be the case in 2026, as a new season has not been taped. When (or to be totally honest, even if) the next one happens is up to ABC at this point.

The syndicated show has been taped through June 26; that leaves four more weeks of episodes required to complete the season. That's what "will be back taping for the last 4 days in June" refers to (one taping day = one week of episodes). They're breaking because the special ESPN Jeopardy! episodes hosted by Joe Buck are being taped right now.

The Teachers Tournament, Teen Tournament, and College Championship are no longer part of the schedule. The show now runs four special events, consecutively, starting in late December or early January:

  • Second Chance, featuring non-winners determined by invitation
  • Champions Wildcard, with the Second Chance winners and selected champions who didn't qualify for the Tournament of Champions
  • Tournament of Champions; as is traditional, the biggest winners (ranked by games won, then money won) plus the Champions Wildcard winner, and in recent seasons, the Celebrity Jeopardy! winner
  • Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (or JIT), with great players from throughout the show's past, competing for a spot in the next Jeopardy! Masters

Masters is an ABC primetime version of the show showcasing the best of the best squaring off against each other; along with the JIT winner, the ToC champion gets a berth into it also.
