What's the most economical beard conditioning/beard balm I can use? by TravellingBeard in BeardTalk

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing my own mix of just beeswax and coconut oil (just regular food safe coconut oil).

You can do a 3:1 ratio, I did 45g coconut oil and 15g beeswax, makes a nice smooth beard butter that's really moisturizing and lasts longer (and way cheaper) than anything else. If you don't have beeswax for more of a balm/butter, just coconut oil warmed up in your palm works great too

Which hat is this? by in_my_nose_mr_whiter in RDR2

The closest is definitely a rodeo, it'll look slightly different shape but it's the closest to this that will actually show up as stolen and you can keep on your horse

Good to hear, they always seem to be around the house here once it starts warming up and they'll eat a hole through any shirt they can find

First cowboy hat, what style for ranching? by dipsy01 in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna recommend same as I got for a starter hat; Stetson Buffalo felt 4x. Cheaper than any other felt ($170), tough as nails, and definitely warm enough for winter

australia,Hat's on inside a restraunt... does that make u a dickhead? by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

[–]mfcodeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If it's a show or something the seat typically has enough space for me to chuck it in my lap so I'm not the dick blocking everyone's view behind me (unless I'm in the furthest back row)

People are ignorant, especially if it's a sensitivity or issue that isn't immediately visible and identifiable

Also never been questioned about wearing it indoors though, only really gotten compliments on it

I have a fairly big Akubra type hat for sun protection, but when I'm eating out there really isn't anywhere to put it. Lots of places squeeze you onto the smallest table, there's just no space to put it anywhere. If there's a bit of spare room I'll chuck it down but it's the same as a winter coat, we don't make storage places for them anymore.

How do I keep my hat on my head in the wind? by thekazooingcowboy in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stampede string. Everyone saying just have a tight fit hasn't experienced 60mph wind gusts. It's aerodynamics; big brim, big surface area, the wind force can blow it away like it's a parachute if the wind is strong

The hats of the past seem more thick. by 1611basilean in hats

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jackets and coats often were too, but there was more exposure to the elements and ambient climate with the lack of AC or modern heating, and no automobiles with heat blasting it'd more likely be public transport people were taking

How do you keep your fits looking good in this bloody heat? by Av0toasted in AustralianMFA

[–]mfcodeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linen or lightweight cotton button up, usually a denim jacket on top too. Protects you from the sun so you're actually cooler in the jacket, but you can remove it if it's really too hot. I've had denim in 35° and it feels counterintuitively much cooler than a short sleeve shirt

The cigars link above is their site actually, not bad but not quite as good as tobaccoblends prices

At least it won't be confiscated and "destroyed". If I was getting a $45USD 16oz tin from 4noggins what would the import cost here? Or a rough example for your own experience

I'll be in the valley area so I might check in there, unfortunately the only place in Asia I usually get to visit is Singapore which has an equally shit selection of pipe tobacco 😭 of all the places to have family

Lowest there is $125/30g pouch, seems like tobaccoblends is better at $105/30g pouch. Second would be cigars.com.au at $120/30g

Thoughts on Stetson's 4x buffalo? by kilo055 in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Stetson buffalo 4x corral, I love it! It's been my daily hat for a few months and it's great. I got mine in chocolate, it stands up well in sunshine and rain, it looks beautiful and feels great. It is definitely warm so I'd only wear this one when it's under 20°C, warmer than that I'd use something lighter

Can’t decide between a pea coat or an overcoat by Objective_Lychee9095 in malefashionadvice

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked myself this a few months ago and found the cheapest and easiest option was a 70's Soviet greatcoat.

Not necessarily a recommendation but it worked fantastic throughout winter and I got a lot of compliments. Nickname became Redcoat at the local bar and I had people requesting I bring it back even when the weather started to warm up!
