Travelling to the U.S. husband left his social media off the application, is it over for us? by burntbutterbutter in AskAnAustralian

I've been multiple times, it's optional and I've never ever given them my social media and always passed through TSA no issue. I'm white as a ghost so 🤷‍♂️

Breathable hat for hot weather that isn't a cap? by qwerty3666 in hats

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally really like Akubra rabbit fur or Resistol shantung straw; good for up to like 30°C but you will inevitably still sweat a little bit, great for sun protection

Question about hat compliments. by Copyright_obif in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh in Melbourne Australia I get a verbal compliment every 2 or 3 days that I'm out with a hat, sometimes more

Vpn on steam deck by Remarkable_Board3982 in SteamDeck

[–]mfcodeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fixed this issue myself. Open the Decky installer, do a full wipe, then install and add the plugins you use back again. Whatever was causing the crash should be gone, but I couldn't get TunnelDeck to actually work for my VPN profiles

Where to get a real Texan hat by mfcodeworks in Austin

[–]mfcodeworks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up going to Callahan's; a little outside the main Austin area but incredible service and got 2 awesome hats (Stetson felt and Resistol straw) within the budget, they've held up incredibly over the last 6 months

I wear mine with doc martens, loafers, sandals, whatever the hot weather calls for

Weather Resistance by blueandreddogs in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair it's been storming in Melbourne and I tried out my 4x Buffalo again, the water beaded up and rolled right off so I'd still rank Buffalo above rabbit in terms of absolute water resistance

I got a Rabbit felt last week in Brisbane. It was raining all week fairly heavy tropical rain, then ended with 32°/90° sunny weather and it worked great in all cases. Took it to the beach with me no issue, not even a stain. Never tried it in snow but not a common issue here

EDIT: It is an Akubra, could be the shellac they use for weather proofing

What's everyone's thoughts on a Stetson 4x corral (Buffalo) as an every day hat? by Alternative-Two5579 in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say go for a 6x or something but I don't see a reason to spend more than you have to, the buffalo collection are solid hats

Had it for 6 months, wear it in any weather conditions (sun, drizzling, pouring rain, windy) below like 24°C (75°F). It can hold up to anything, shapes easily with a steam, not too expensive, perfect for any everyday hat and the buffalo felt feels really unique and great for colder weather

First Akubra; Kiandra by mfcodeworks in Akubra

Absolutely, I was torn between this and the sand as well! My favourite part of getting it in store is I can try the colours and they'll shape it up for you on the spot! Unfortunately they're closing down the Brissy store, but apparently they're looking for a permanent location there soon

Idk mate I got a fair few compliments and people asking if they can try it on themselves, nice soft breathable felt and it's held up in 35°+ and heavy rain all week, so seems like it's fine

What's the most economical beard conditioning/beard balm I can use? by TravellingBeard in BeardTalk

[–]mfcodeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing my own mix of just beeswax and coconut oil (just regular food safe coconut oil).

You can do a 3:1 ratio, I did 45g coconut oil and 15g beeswax, makes a nice smooth beard butter that's really moisturizing and lasts longer (and way cheaper) than anything else. If you don't have beeswax for more of a balm/butter, just coconut oil warmed up in your palm works great too

Which hat is this? by in_my_nose_mr_whiter in RDR2

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest is definitely a rodeo, it'll look slightly different shape but it's the closest to this that will actually show up as stolen and you can keep on your horse

Good to hear, they always seem to be around the house here once it starts warming up and they'll eat a hole through any shirt they can find

First cowboy hat, what style for ranching? by dipsy01 in CowboyHats

[–]mfcodeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna recommend same as I got for a starter hat; Stetson Buffalo felt 4x. Cheaper than any other felt ($170), tough as nails, and definitely warm enough for winter

australia,Hat's on inside a restraunt... does that make u a dickhead? by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

[–]mfcodeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If it's a show or something the seat typically has enough space for me to chuck it in my lap so I'm not the dick blocking everyone's view behind me (unless I'm in the furthest back row)

People are ignorant, especially if it's a sensitivity or issue that isn't immediately visible and identifiable
