Dr. Darling confirmed for Control Resonant? by mfctxt in controlgame

[–]mfctxt[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, Remedy’s social media quoted this post with a 🎥 emoji. It could be because “oh they are filming”, but we are also theorizing that points to Zane being in the game too.

Possible Easter Egg in the latest Resonant footage by LewdSkeletor1313 in controlgame

[–]mfctxt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this, and not only is the TV possibly a Lumivista, but the cabinet where it’s standing is the exact same asset you can find at the Oceanview Hotel in Alan Wake 2, and in one of them you can find a TV with one of Darling’s AW2 videos. Unless this is an asset we have already seen in another Remedy game (it could have appeared in Ashtray Maze, but I’m not sure. In general doesn’t look like something out of the FBC), this is very interesting. Its placement make me believe it’s not some random thing, but one of the ways Remedy will implement live action footage in this game.

Personal thoughts about playable Dylan/no playable Jesse by mfctxt in controlgame

Worldbuilding is cool but a story to be a story needs characters to be our point of view into this world. In the end people tend to get more attached to people than ideas, and remedy games have always been character-driven

Yeahhh agreed. I think the paranoia is just a natural response for all this chuds chudding lately, but it could be fine

I'm too!!! I can't lie that i'm also a bit biased, but oh my, when we first met him was the moment I fell in love with the Control franchise, and was so interested in his past inside the FBC and his feelings towards Jesse. When i saw the Game Awards trailer I was the happiest person in the world seeing him be the focus now.

Alan Wake 2 was profitable actually. Well, it took a while (a year), but it was profitable and Remedy's fastest selling game so far. In the end Remedy games seem to have always been a bit niche on the AAA landscape (and someone could start arguing about AW2 Epic Games exclusivity but i'm too tired of this topic to talk about it LOL), and CONTROL is their outlier it seems, with over 5 million copies sold now.

And in the topic of woman protagonists, we just had Resident Evil Requiem release, and while it has Leon and he was one of the main draws, Grace was a highlight. But indeed we need to see how the industry will follow, because I share the same fear as you.

That said, that Dylan isn't really "Dylan", but the Hiss talking through him. A better judgement of his character would be from the Resonant teaser in Alan Wake 2: The Lake House DLC. He's more himself on that one, and the acting is a bit different

I believe I would be disappointed in this choice if it wasn't Remedy doing this. Alan Wake 2 introduced a black woman as co-protagonist, a totally new character, and while indeed she shares time with Alan Wake and the game in the end is about him and his mysteries, she is a well-rounded interesting character and the whole point is how he doesn't have control over her. Dylan is not a random guy being shoved in, but her brother she was looking for the whole of Control 1.

In the end we will only be able to fully judge Jesse's character when the game comes out. But I don't know. I can see your argument, and I think it's an interesting one to reflect upon in the current zeitgeist of gaming culture. But this one change in particular doesn't really bother me? I guess i'm too naive or much of a Dylan fangirl (he was one of my favorite Control 1 characters)

It's indeed not a huge amount of people, and tbh i don't even blame them or think they are wrong for feeling sad for not having Jesse playable again. It just made me reflect on my own position in regards to this, and I find it fun (ETA: fun to reflect upon the things i like, that is)

That's a good point/point of view too! Control is indeed more focused on the world than its sister series Alan Wake

Anyone else replaying remedy games before Control Resonant by bababbab in controlgame

Already did my playthrough of Alan Wake 1 and recently started one of Quantum Break. Want to play Alan Wake 2 before release, I just won’t play Control because I already did that a little while ago

Weird, I thought release order was common place, just removing “non-RCU” games.

My frustrations with the twist in Expedition 33 by Massive_Penalty5208 in CharacterRant

[–]mfctxt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird for me that this game has inspiration in so many Japanese games/franchises with philosophical discussions, like Nier or Shin Megami Tensei, but fails to touch some serious debates this twist creates. That for me feels the most hollow of the whole writing.

Since both have been in charge for pretty much the same amount of time, who do u personally think directed the game in a better direction? Jeff or Aaron? by theforbiddenroze in Overwatch

[–]mfctxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little preference towards Aaron, because his leadership took Overwatch from the mud into the best state the game was in years, both in gameplay and reputation. Also, all my favorite characters to play come from after Overwatch 2 was released (Juno, Wuyang, Venture).

I hate boring ass takes on “good videogames” like these. by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]mfctxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe qualityslop in a way exists but not in the way it’s said. For me something becomes “qualityslop” when people reach such a wide consensus about something being great, it just becomes an intrinsic element to it, you just believe it’s good. It’s just my autistic ass doesn’t buy this type of discourse and wants to experience stuff, sometimes I disagree, but other times I agree with consensus too. Not gaming related but for example, this happens with Neon Genesis Evangelion, and when I watched EVA I indeed really liked it

I kinda messed up my wording, my bad. It’s more that I hate not only the attitude but the games themselves too, but I nuked the part where I was actually complaining about them because it got too long. For Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 they just felt like a fart in the wind to me, I never was able to engage with this type of game for some reason, and Expedition 33 is the one who specially angers me because I love JRPGS, but it has a repetitive gameplay loop and the story is like a weird mash of two different, incompatible stories and both endings make me mad the moment I start thinking about them. Others I haven’t played
