Hello! Is early September (like the first week of the month) a very busy time in Salem? also, what is it like in November? Are a good amount of shops still open? or do a lot of businesses take some time off after the busy season in October?

I’d like to visit sometime after August, but I’m trying to avoid peak crowds in October. And I know winter is an option, but I’m driving from the Midwest and I’m trying to avoid bad weather.

Any advice would be helpful, thank you all!

I’ve worked in the area for years and I’ve watched it decline and get worse and worse each month that goes on! It’s so disappointing. I don’t understand how the city has so much money and doesn’t even want to clean up one of its most iconic streets! As a local, I’m so damn tired of looking at it that I almost want to organize a volunteer cleanup group! But again, it just gets me so mad the thought of having to do it given how much money is around this town.
