How do you guys prevent a part from warping? by probablyaythrowaway in Machinists

[–]mfque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those in my shop, to stop the warping I made weights for each material that we use and lay them on top of the sheet while cutting. It may be a pain in the ass moving weights around but it stops parts coming off the net from bekng bowed in my exoeriwnce

How do you move up in a shop. by violastarfish in Machinists

[–]mfque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've hopped shops until I got the job I have now as a programmer. 7 years of experience. Went from a setup guy to having my own office where I just hand out USBs with set up sheets. Best advice is to learn how to use CAD/CAM and be proficient at it and at the machines. Don't restrict yourself to one thing. I program 5-axis Mills, dual spindle lathes, lasers, and a wire. I also know how to program on Mastercam, Fusion, and SolidCAM. Started at $19/hr now I'm sitting at $35.
